April Fools 2010… Highly Illogical

Hey, folks, Jonathon here. Yes, April 1st as come and gone, leaving in it’s wake plenty of jokes for us to talk about for years to come.

First, yes, for those of you who are always on the ball (and I hope you all are) there was a slight alteration to the site’s logo. Namely that it was NarniaWeb, not NarniaFans. A quick trip over to our sister-site would have read NarniaFans instead of NarniaWeb. Paul Martin and David Hollander (the webmaster at NarniaWeb.com) switched logos for the day. This one I had nothing to do with. It is so simple, yet so complex and I tip my hat to them for this one.

Second- the rest of the jokes. Each year I try to do just a tad bit better at making the jokes semi-plausible. Lets face it, the Lindsay Lohan as Ramandu’s daughter and Zac Efron as Eustace days are over. At the very least for you, our readers I want to at least seem like I’m trying to make an effort to pull a good prank, and believe me, friends, we are only getting started.

Sadly, we didn’t get the press like we did last year for the Twilight joke, but well as “they” say lightning never strikes twice. None the less I had a blast writing them (though I’ll admit it was a tiny bit embarassing to go on-line and try and look for the pictures of the different Barbie Dolls) and reading your reactions . As usual you are all very good sports, especially everyone at The Dancing Lawn who helped to remind the fans who take the jokes too seriously to look at the date.

So here’s a brief recap, and of course retractions:

-Celine Dion will NOT be contributing “Love Theme for Caspian and Ramandu’s Daughter” for the soundtrack to VODT. I don’t even know if they’ll have so much as a leitmotif in the film.

-There will NOT (at least to the best of my knowledge) be Ken and Barbie dolls as Caspian and Ramandu’s daughter.

-Leonard Nimoy AKA Spock will NOT be playing Ramandu. We (at least I and most of us on the site) don’t know who’s playing him at this point.

Also, as a bonus, I’m not sure if any one caught my “Easter eggs” in each of the jokes. Here they are.

Celine Dion joke- NarniaSpy, “Eris” was named after Eris the Greek goddess of discord who played, I believe the mother of all pranks during the wedding of Thetis by bringing a “gift” to the gods of a golden apple “for the fairest” that led Hera, Athena and Aphrodite to squabbling over it and eventually leading to the whole Trojan war.

Caspian & Ramandu’s daughter Ken and Barbie dolls- The report was given to us by “Sid Phillips” , the full name of the villain known as “Sid The Toy Destroyer” in Toy Story.

Leonard Nimoy joke source Loki- Loki was the prankster of the Norse gods. ‘Nuff said.

That’s it for this year! I hope you enjoyed it. Come back again next April first to see what kind of madcap mayhem Paul and I along with the rest of the staff have in store for you all. After all it’s the one day we can truly get away with behaving like Duffers.

  1. You guys are good! I can’t remember any other time I fell for an April Fools prank! XD

  2. I did catch the Sid Phillips Easter egg! “Keep it up, Jonathon! No one can say it neater and cleaner! Keep it up!”

  3. Oh thank GOD. That Celine Dion-thing. I was about to say.

I DID catch the Sid Phillips-thing. I was all, “…Isn’t that the kid from Toy Story?” But I thought better of it because I didn’t realize it was an April Fools joke.

These were really good, though. Gotta admit.

  4. Celine Deon…never fell for it. I happen to know they are adapting music from the marches of John Phillips Sousa. I originally had qualms about this because they should have chosen the British composer Sir Edward Elgar. Nothing says smooching like writing sultry lyrics to Pomp and Circumstance….

  5. i caught the Loki one with Nimoy. but then again with the Thor production underway there are plenty of Marvel fans posting around that call themselves Loki ;). and i DO wish they would consider Nimoy for Ramandu. who knows Jonathon, maybe this could influence TPTB to go ask him 🙂

and the Eris one i caught also, but truthfully Celine Dion has the vocal quality (and the clout) to make for a great song, whether or not its romantic or more “epic” like what Enya and Annie Lenox did for LOTR. btw, wasnt Eris and the Apple of Discord a story involving Atalanta the man-hater and not Helen of Troy? or am i misremembering my greek myth?

    • You know… I hadn’t even thought of that! Despite my love for comic books, that was the last thing I thought of.

Same here! That’s why I posted it. Hey, I hoped Liam Neeson would be Aslan way back in 2004, before he was cast in summer of 2005.. maybe I’ll be two for two!

She does. Different myth actually. That was Aphrodite who gave them to Hippomenes to use them on Atalanta. Eris used it in the whole Trojan War story. Double checked with my copies of Edith Hamilton’s Mythology and Bulfinch’s Mythology.

  6. Well done. XD

Leonard Nemoy threw me off… I was like “WHAT?!! Oh… I could see that… maybe…” and then I thought about what day it was. 😛

Actually, I think the barbie one is the one that made me suspicious.

  7. Thank God it was all a joke
because when I read it I thought what?
very funny now that I know is a joke

    • Hopefully… I’ll have more legitimate sources then folks going by the names of mythological figures, and disturbing cartoon cahracters!

      Plus… Paul will post it!

  8. Wow, I am so gullible. I fell for every single trick here and on aslanscountry.com! Well, now I can breathe a sigh of relief!

    • Well, yes, Narniamiss, yes I am . I wouldn’t call myself a “Trekkie” or a “Trekker” but I do enjoy the show and the mythology of that universe. I own all eleven movies on DVD. I don’t have the TV show itself, mainly as it is waaay to expensive for all the seasons of each season.

Actually my choice was between Nimoy and Patrick Stewart. I was going to go with Stewart originally as not only would it give us both a Star Wars actor (Liam Neeson was in Star Wars Episode I as Qui-Gon Jinn and now voices Aslan) and a Star Trek( Partick Stewart)but it would give us an actor from a DC comics film ( Neeson was in Batman Begins) and a Marvel ( Patrick Stewart in X-Men).

But in the end Nimoy won because well, the funny link to Ballad of Bilbo Baggins!

      • Nice I think Nemoy is a funnier choice, for some reason.
I like the original series the best; I never got into the newer stuff, or the movies. I always hate it when actors get older.

  9. Oh, yes. However, despite the illogical nature of these news posts, I must concede that it would be totally awesome for Leonard Nimoy to play Ramandu.

    We all know the tone…

  10. For once, I wasn’t blonde enough to believe the jokes…now that I know the style of NarniaFans and NarniaWeb. 😉
