Saturday evening, Nov. 20, 2010, lovers of two of the most popular writers of all time–C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, known popularly for the Narnia series and Lord of the Rings–are invited to spend an evening with another Lewis/Tolkien luminary: Peter Kreeft of Boston.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. in Elliott Hall at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd. in Dallas. Tickets are $75. And the evening includes “the most literary silent auction in Dallas.” (To reserve seats, email mdmonse@yahoo.com)
Dr. Kreeft is a professor of philosophy at Boston College and King’s College in New York. The bestselling author’s more than 45 provocative books include “C.S. Lewis for the Third Millennium,” “Celebrating Middle Earth: Lord of the Rings,” “Philosophy of Tolkien,” “Socrates Meets Jesus,” and “How to Win the Culture War.” A speaker in wide demand, he will speak on “Lewis, Tolkien, and the Culture War.”
“For lovers of Lewis and Tolkein–and they seem to multiply with the generations–this is an evening to explore the minds of two of the most fascinating writers of the 20th century,” said Dr. James Patrick, founder and president of The College of St. Thomas More, for which the event raises money. “In this case, Dr. Kreeft has such a large following, he’s nearly as much a draw as the authors we honor.”
The great friendship between Lewis and Tolkien–one Protestant, one Catholic–inspired The College’s ecumenical C.S. Lewis/J.R.R. Tolkien Center for the Common Tradition, which sponsors the annual event.
