David Magee finishes The Silver Chair Script (Updated June 28)

David Magee TwitterThere have been many rumors about The Silver Chair over the last year. Now it seems that screenwriter David Magee has finished the final draft of the script.

According to this screenshot of a tweet (his twitter account is private): “Completed the final draft of The Silver Chair today. I’ve had the immense pleasure to work on the project for over a year now. So fulfilling.”

We confirmed it with David Magee through his public facing twitter account (the account this appeared on was one for family and friends only).

The film is without a cast, director or major motion picture studio at the moment, with the Mark Gordon Company being mostly a television studio.

The last rumors that I heard were that Sony Pictures was in the running, after most other studios had passed on the project. There is no word if that’s where the project has settled. For the moment, take all of this with a grain of salt. We only know what our sources have told us, and nothing more.

Update (June 28, 2015):

The official Narnia facebook page has been updated to deny that the script has been finished by David Magee. Either there has been some hacking, or some false accounts created speaking on Magee’s behalf in an elaborate con by some kids hoping to cause a stir.

The bogus report of David Magee's #SilverChair finished script is a scam. Always follow The Chronicles of Narnia @officialnarnia & Narnia.com for all official movie news #NarniaMovieNews

Like we said before… take all of this with a grain of salt. The thought that more Narnia was coming was fun while it lasted.

  1. I’m interested in what rumours you’ve heard about the studio search. Sony will get their hands on any thing at this point…

Regarding the tweet, I believe it’s authentic but we probably won’t get an ‘official’ update because this isn’t the thing studies usually announce. We’ll have to see.

  2. I’m interested in what rumours you heard regarding the studio search. At this point Sony is willing to get their hands on anything with name recognition…

Regarding the Twitter post, I believe it authentic but it’s unlikely we’ll get any ‘official’ news about it. Doesn’t seem like the thing production companies announced via press release. We’ll have to see.

    • I’d like to know the rumors as well. But yeah, now that Sony’s co-producing Spider-Man with Disney’s Marvel Studios, they’re looking to fill their slate with projects. They’re also working to create a Ghostbusters cinematic universe with a production group called Ghost Corps. I’m not sure what else they have going on, though.

      • Sony as a movie company is incredible desperate at the moment. I mean they’re making a female 21 Jump Street (like Ghostbusters) and a Men in Black crossover for the series! Plus Sony will likely be losing the rights to James Bond after Spectre comes out so that’s more incentive for them to pick up another big franchise. That’s why I could see them going after Narnia.

I would much rather see a smaller studio for The Silver Chair like Lionsgate (the name is perfect ). With Hunger Games and Divergent wrapping up, I think they’d be willing to back Narnia.

  3. I’m sure this was NOT planned, but this month (actually today that I’m commenting on this; 6/24), The Silver Chair first came out in paperback in 1965…so, that’s the 50th anniversary!
