Eustace to be recast for The Silver Chair

Eustace Clarence ScrubbEvery day we get closer to the announcement of production on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair. We don’t know when that day will come, but we believe that it’s only a matter of time.

We’ve heard through the grapevine that the role of Eustace Clarence Scrubb is going to be recast. It makes sense, though. When they filmed The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader it was 2009. A year later, Will Poulter had grown about a foot taller. He was 16 when they filmed, and is now 22. It’s the unfortunate realities of a film series that is live action, that has very long gaps between each film produced.

It’s still far too early to know any possibilities for actors that could play Eustace this time around, and we’ve been e-mailed many times over the years by many hopeful girls that wanted the role of Jill Pole. We can’t help with that, though.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it!

  1. Not going to lie. Playing any Narnia character would be pretty sweet. I grew up on the series and these characters still leaving lasting imprints on my life.

  2. Is there anyone in the world who looks like him?? So that there won’t be a big difference in the way he behaves.

  3. It’s unfortunate but there’s no way he can pass for a child – even a young teen. This will be good in the long run!

    • I agree.
How does this delay affect the continuity of the series in general? Magicians’ Nephew doesn’t need any continuity of cast with the prior films except Tilda Swinton (and Liam Neeson’s voice). In Horse and his Boy Susan, Edmund and Lucy are adults so perhaps Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley could come back. And in Last Battle Peter Edmund and Lucy appear only in Aslan’s country where their appearance needn’t totally reflect their previous earthly ages so maybe Skandar Georgie and William Moseley could do that as well. Though if we’re looking at a number of years between each film being released that may be stretching things.

      • In HHB Susan, Edmund and Lucy are all young adults, though (or close to it) so I think it would be feasible to have the actors come back for that film so long as they agree to do it. Same with LB- most of the characters are a good deal older than the last time we’ve seen them.

The main problems I think would be Eustace and Jill going into LB

  4. Ahh… This makes me sad. I’d almost rather they would play around with the timeline a bit, instead of recasting Eustace. I felt that Will Poulter was awesome!
