Post The Beginning of a Journey (thoughts for all movies)

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to put this in, but since it's kinda movieverse. Mind you, this is only my thoughts and POV.

It seems the theme running through the LWW and PC for the movies when the credits are at the beginning of the movie are about journeys of some kind. (I’ve been thinking about since someone from the documentary on PC on NarniaWeb mentioned.)

In LWW – We see the Pevensies travel by train to the Professor’s.

In PC – We see Prince Caspian fleeing for his life from Miraz’s guards.

So what could we expect in the other movies?

VDT –

Narnia – The Dawn Treader at sea, beginning her voyage.

Our world – Edmund and Lucy on a train on their way to cousin’s house.

We could see one or the other, but most likely my guess if the one we see is the one with the Dawn Treader.

SC –

Narnia – Maybe the back of Rilian as he rides North, never to be seen again…

Our world – Eustace on the train back to school.

Though it would nice to see Rilian, even if it’s not a good look at him, would add to the mystery.

But most likely we’d see Eustace on a train.

HHB –

Maybe Bree and his master on their journey that will be the beginning of the journey North with Bree and Shasta.

MN –

Though it would be interesting to see, maybe Jadis’ army marching toward Charn. (but that may spoil…)

Young Digory on a train heading to London.

Though he would be most likely one to see.

LB –

Most likely we’ll see, the Pevensies, along with Eustace and Jill on a train (NOT the train) toward London to visit Aunt Polly and the Professor.

If not that, it would be interesting to see the time go throughout Narnia, from Rilian’s time to Tirian’s. Like a quick flashblack.

Any one agree/disagree? Have any ideas of your own?

With SC you more or less have a journey to start with as Eustace and Jill go on the run from the bullies and find the door in the garden wall.
With the other stories, nothing comes immediately to mind and I`ve thought for some time that MN and THAHB might open differently.
Possably with one of the existing characters, the Professor in MN and maybe Lucy in THAHB acting as narrator in a brief opening sequence before segueing in to the main story, perhaps over the titles.

No, I do not think that all the movies will start with a journey. It just plainly will not work for them all.... at least not in my mind.

In VODT it is possible that they'll start out with the Dawn Treader leaving Narnia (specifically Cair Paravel), but I doubt that they'll start with a journey in say MN or HHB where it just wouldn't fit the plot to do so (again in MY mind it wouldn't but who knows what the moviemakers will think... if they even get that far). Though I know they'll change some things in probably all the movies I'd wish that they'd start out and end true to the books... at least in LWW and PC that was kinda how the books started.

And btw in The Last Battle I'd think if they started with a journey it'd be the train accident where they're thrown into Narnia.

Anywho if anyone cares about my opinion there it is.

Edit: and this thread may be better in 'Hunt for the White Stag'.

Starting a movie with a journey is a narrative device. It takes advantage of the feelings people have about getting away from the familar and into the new and exciting. The feeling is best summed up in this quote from "It's a Wonderful Life".

Quote:
George: "Do you know what the three most exciting sounds in the world are?"

Uncle Billy: "Breakfast is served, Lunch is served, Dinner is..."

George: "No! Plane engines, train whistles and anchor chains! One of these days I'm going to shake the dust of this crummy town off my shoes and SEE THE WORLD."

For VotDt, it would be interesting to start with Lucy and Edmund getting ready for their journey. Maybe having Lucy jealous at Susan for being able to travel so far.

For both TSC and MN, I like the narrative they had at the beginning of the books, that of the beginning of a friendship. And really, friendships are the best journeys anyone can take.

H&HB would work best as the start of a journey, although I would want that to be of an infant in a boat floating up toward the shore.

TLB is the end of a journey. Showing Tirian relaxing at his vacation home is perfect.

Trains scenes can be great, but hopefully they won't emphasize them overmuch (or at least emphasize them in the same way) in future films. The train scenes in the last two films have been neat, and unique from each other; but if they try to include a train near the beginning of each movie, the train scenes would begin to seem redundant.

The journey themes are good, as long as they stay unique, since CoN is about people traveling to another world, after all. SC doesn't really begin with one, but I enjoy reading the hiding-from-the-bullies sequence at the beginning. I hope the movie will make the most of the first SC scene Lewis included.
