TheGardener is on a distinguished road
Default Tolkien names

In naming his characters, Tolkien often reuses a prefix or suffix, especially within families. However I just recently noticed the use of 'El' as in Elrond, Elros, Elladan, Elrohir and Elendil and wondered if Tolkien took it from the Hebrew 'El' as in Elohim and Beth-el which I think translate as Mighty One (s) and House of God (or maybe House of the Mighty?).

I believe it's actually supposed to be related to the word "Elf".
