Who should play Cariakin the Wizard?

Seeing that the only discussions on new cast members have been only for Eustace(which has been decided) and Ramandu and his daughter, I decided to open a thread on who could play Coriakin, the wizard Lucy meets on Duffer Island. Three people come to my mind on who could play him: Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen, and Jim Broadbent. McKellen would make a good one, but he will probably won't even play him because he is going to be Gandalf in the Hobbit movie which is coming out 2010 or 2011, so he will be busy with that. So, I ask the rest of you: who do you think could play Coriakin?

I think that's Coriakin. It's a rather minor role (assuming they hew to the original story, which may not be a safe bet), so I don't think it would call for a star billing.

Yes, it's Coriakin, and it says it's a magician, now a wizard. But maybe there is not much of a difference there. I say Copperfox should play that.;);)

Actually, he is a star in punishment. I guess being such a being, he knows some magic.

As for who could play him, I don't know. I think, assuming they keep his role about the same size as he was in the book, PotW may be correct in getting someone who is not so famous.

If, by chance, they do decide to get someone famous, I wouldn't mind seeing Patrick Stewart as either Coriakin or Ramadu.

JIm Broadbent has already been in Narnia as Professor Kirke and it would be too confusing to have him in both roles.

While McKellen would be phenomenal in the role, audiences would see McKellen and say " Hey, what's Gandalf doing in this movie." Coriakin and Gandalf are almost too similar.

Lee would work, only becasue Coriakin would be such a different role from what he has already played (Dracula, Dooku, and Saruman.)

I have to side with Mr Bob and say Patrick Stewart. I've seen some videos put out by the Royal Shakespeare Company and he did a good job playing Prospero, another wizard character. He also did the original narrations for Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and he had this almost "eccentric but kind uncle sound" which Coriakin needs.

Hmmm, How about Leonard Nimoy?

I think the character of the Magician is rather comical, so I think that Christopher Loyd would be good! or just any person, really...it is such a small role!

Plummer is still alive? The only movie I've seen him in is "Sound of Music".

Yes he is. He's filimg a few movies right now. He also was General Chang, A Klingon Warlord in Star Trek VI ( teh one who kept quoting SHakespeare), the voice of Fivel's father in Amaerican tale and Ben Gates' grandfather in National Treasure.
Now that you mention him, he woudl be a good coriakin, but something about him is almsot too refined and regal. he'd be better as Ramandu.

Say, how about Christopher Walken?

Walken: No, that face is not right (not that his face is bad, but Christopher Walken has a type of look that is unchangeable.

Nimoy: "Illogical!" His voice doesn't quite fit the character, but the look could be achieved. Although I imagine the internet becoming strewn with "Spock in a different space role!" commentaries.

Plummer: No...too grandfatherly.

Christopher Lloyd: Having seen way too much "Cyberchase" with a yelling version of him, he'd work as long as he doesn't raise his voice too much, but his character doesn't call for that so there might not be any worries.

Patrick Stewart: Very good choice, as long as he's willing to do it. I would probably prefer him to do Ramandu though, since I imagine him as a bit more of a deep voiced character (along the lines of Charlton Heston's voice).

Christopher Lee: I'm afraid he's a little too stereotyped in a wizard role for me. He'd be okay though, but he's better as a menace, not a grandfather.

I vote for Patrick Stewart. But I don't think he will want to do this.

What makes you say that? Keep in mind despite being a member of the RSC, the better parts of his career have been Star Trek the Next generation and X-Men. He also voiced the Pharoah in Prince of Egypt. Plus he did teh audio book version of the Last Battle.

As of now, the only thinsg besides X-men I've heard him in recently is narrations for nassal spray commercials.

he's too good for such a small role. I am thinking maybe he can play Lord Bern, or even Drinian although he may be too old for Drinian.

mm how old is the guy the threads about supposed to be??

Corkiakin? No age specified. AS he is a star on probation, we can assume he was created about a fraction of a nanosecond before the dirt of Narnia so therefore Coriakin (and likewise Ramandu) are older than dirt, but only by a fraction of a nanosecond.

Ahh, now I see your point BarbarianKing. He does need a bigger role for someone of his caliber (not huge, just something to showcase his acting prowess.). It would kind of be like if they had Liam Neeson voice Maugrim the wolf instead of Aslan.

But he has played a wizard as well. He voiced the sorcerer, Rasputin, in the Annastasia movie.

Can we pick people who have never played wizards/sorcerers/magicians before?
