Default The TDL Couple

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on TDL, but I often sign on to reminisce about the days during my 7th and 8th grade school years when I spent my time here as an avid duffer. I like how the background and all the forums still look the same as they did then, even after all the years and new Narnia movies. It’s nice to come back here and see the familiar names still posting here. I had so much fun on these forums, especially when meeting different people. The truth is that being on this forum had a huge impact on my life. And this is the reason why I’m writing this thread.
I remember there used to be a feature beside usernames which allowed users to view the instant messaging screenames (like Yahoo, AIM, and MSN) of other users. When I was in 8th grade I had an AIM account and that’s how I met and chatted with other Narniafans. So basically I’d collect AIM screenames and IM people when I was bored. Does that sound a little weird? I’ll admit the first introductions were always kind of awkward. I’d usually get a few questions like “Who are you and how did you get my screename?” I usually never held conversations with any one more than once.
It was some sometime in January of 2008 when I Instant Messaged a girl named Natalie, who was also a regular duffer on TDL. Our first conversation went well from what I remember. We were the same age, in the same grade, and both really loved the Narnia books and movie. She lived in Ohio, and I in Florida. And we talked A LOT. We chatted nearly every day after school since I first messaged her. It wasn’t long before we were talking and watching movies over the phone and swapping school pics, and eventually writing each other letters. We really connected. It’s amazing what sort of honest friendship you can develop with a person who you’re completely open with, and yet never met in person. I think, at least somewhere in everyone’s life, there’s someone who a person can truly be themselves to. For us, it was each other.
But it only lasted for a few months. At the end of my 8th grade school year, I lost internet for a few years. Natalie and I didn’t really talk much on the phone after that. We both were starting high school, and she moved houses, and changed number and address. It all eventually ended over that summer. But I never forgot her. Over the course of three years I tried to write her and email her on her old screename with new cell phone numbers, attempting to reach her and re-connect so I’d know how she was doing. I’d usually use the high school’s internet or the library’s since I didn’t have access of my own. But we never did re-connect during those years.
I moved houses too, changed address and phone numbers, but the summer before my senior year I got wireless internet at my house. I checked Natalie’s Username on TDL to see when her last sign-on was. Four years. She wasn’t much of a duffer any more either. I had stopped trying to get back in touch with her and I didn’t really sign on TDL that much either. A few months later, I just decided to sign on and peruse the forums. I scanned all the way down to the “Who’s Online Now” box and there was her old username! She was online that moment! What a coincidence…. I couldn’t believe it. I sent her a private message hoping she would see it before she signed off again.
That night we talked for the first time in four years. We had a lot of catching up to do. We soon became the same old friends we were before. We talked about a lot of things; our school, our college pursuits, music, books, politics, religion, relationships. Just about everything. We had changed a lot. We both had become…more like individuals. But we understood each other perfectly just as our friendship before. We talked our way through our last year of high school, graduation, and our first year of college, chatting at least once a week. Last April we started chatting more and more until it was every night. It turned out that she and her family had begun planning a trip to Florida to visit her brother that May. We started planning a way to for us to meet up. Last May, on the 16th 2012, we met in St Augustine, Florida and spent four days together where our relationship grew into something that was more than best friends. St. Augustine was where we fell in love.
After she went back to Ohio we worked out a way for her to move down to Florida. She’s staying in an apartment not far from where I live and she transferred to the state college I attend and we are taking a history class together this semester.
I’m really grateful for the Narnia stories, C.S. Lewis, and all the countless, good things that led us to being brought together, especially this forum where we met. So thank you TDL!

This is Natalie (previously MrsKeynes x3). When my family made plans to visit my brother in Florida (he’s in the air force and travels around), I knew it was the perfect opportunity to finally meet Adam. My parents knew how much this meant to me, and they literally drove me to St. Augustine (about an hour and half from Adam) so we could meet up. He rented a hotel near my family’s hotel, and I remember the exact moment I saw him. His face lit up and I knew this was the boy I loved and would love forever. We were both so nervous and excited, and exploring St. George Street together was by far the best moment of my life up until that point. I remember us eating at a little pizza shop and a stranger had come up and whispered something into his ear. Adam wouldn’t tell me what he said until weeks afterward. The man had told Adam to hold my hand.
Everything about the trip was beautiful and romantic, and it was incredibly sad for me driving back to Ohio. In the weeks that followed, I did everything I could to find a place to stay in Adam’s town, and I applied to colleges in the area. What’s weird is how easy things seemed to fall into place after that. I enrolled where Adam went to, and I found a lovely place to rent right down the street from his home. My parents loved Adam and knew he would make me happy, and they did everything they could do to help.
This forum changed my life, and I feel immeasurably grateful for this. When I first met Adam online, I began having doubts about life and God. Five years later, I can’t help but feel that meeting Adam can’t have been an accident. I’ve been battling depression and anxiety, and Adam’s been my angel to get me through tough times, and his love is overwhelming. Because he found me on this website in 2007, I am living literally two minutes from him today in a beautiful rented out cottage on a lake, and I genuinely feel that he saved me. I feel like life is something sacred now and I’m sorry for ever have taken it for granted.
We do everything together these days. I’m going to his college and we’re taking a history course together this fall. I attend his church now every week, and we spend virtually all of our free time together. I feel so lucky and blessed, and I want to thank the creators of TDL for allowing this to happen.

Hey, this is great! You're the second couple I know who met through TDL (the first is now engaged!) I'm glad that your relationship began with a good, sound friendship over common interests. I'll pray that Aslan keeps you between His paws as you seek the best for each other.

(I took the liberty of correcting the spelling of the thread name.)

Aww, this is so sweet. I'm very happy for you guys. Thank you for sharing!

Machia and Liz (Machiatemarshwiggle and fish_wwjd_frog, my brother and sister-in-law) didn't meet on TDL but it helped them get to know each other better so they're a TDL couple too.

Thank you so much for sharing this story. It's awesome and sweet. We all have a lot to thank CS Lewis for. I also believe like Natalie, that finding each other in these forums was not an accident. Thanks also for sharing the photos, you look like the perfect couple! I wish you many, many years of love and happiness together.

PS. Don't be strangers. We'd love to hear from both of you from time to time how things are going.
