Narnia Climbs back to #1 on Box Office Chart

King Kong can’t hold on to the number one slot on the box office charts, as Narnia pulled into the lead on Wednesday, by $70,056. This isn’t a large gap, by any means, but it is telling.

King Kong, at over three hours, is a remake of a story that we all know. I have seen it, and it is very good, but also way too intense for a family to watch together. This is a film that could have been released as the Extended Edition of King Kong on DVD, and a good 2 1/2 hour theatrical version would have been just as good. Be that as it may, it just doesn’t have the draw of the fantasy audiences, as well as the entire family.

Narnia, coming in at just over two hours, is also a perfect holiday film. Not only that, but it is created with the family in mind. Based on a classic childrens book, it is the Christmas destination for people of all ages. But I don’t have to tell you that.

Wednesday:

1. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: $4,940,386
2. King Kong: $4,870,320
3. Fun with Dick and Jane: $3,761,129
4. Cheaper by the Dozen 2: $2,549,891
5. The Family Stone: $1,534,284
