Narnia book to sell for £10,000

A rare first edition collection of CS Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia is expected to fetch £10,000 when it goes up for sale at a major art and antiques fair at the National Exhibition Centre later this week.

The red leather-bound set of books is one of the star attractions at the third National Fine Art & Antiques Fair, which runs from tomorrow until Sunday.

The event is the largest one of its kind outside London and will feature more than 600 dealers as well as attracting collectors from all over Britain.

Promoter Duncan Phillips said that popular culture, such as the recent film adaptation of the second book in the Narnia series, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, had had a dramatic effect on sales of children’s literature.

Harry Potter fans will also have the opportunity to buy a watercolour illustration of the Hogwarts Express painted by Cliff Wright for JK Rowling’s books, which is valued at £8,000.
