The tour will include visits to Salisbury Cathedral, colleges at Oxford and Cambridge, the Kilns (Lewis’s home for 30 years), the Eagle and Child Pub and The Trout Inn, where Lewis gathered with his Christian soul mates, the Inklings.
Lewis Scholar Terry Glaspey is the tour’s keynote speaker. Terry is the author of more than ten books, including Not a Tame Lion: The Spiritual Legacy of C.S. Lewis, 25 Keys to Life-Changing Prayer, and The Book Lover’s Guide to Great Reading, as well as a contributor to books such as The Lion and the Land of Narnia. Terry has an M.A. in Modern European History from the University of Oregon, and is a passionate student of art, theology, and literature. He speaks frequently on such topics as C.S. Lewis, the Inklings, the relationship between art and faith, prayer and spirituality, and the mechanics of good writing.
Screenwriter Darren Scott Jacobs (C. S. Lewis – The Movie) will also share his insight and stories of co-writing what he envisions to be the definitive film about Lewis’ life. Darren is also a contributing author to the book The Lion and the Land of Narnia. Darren and his wife GayLynn will be your tour hosts.
Owen A. Barfield joins the C. S. Lewis Society Tour
The C. S. Lewis Society is pleased to announce that Owen A. Barfield will address our tour in Oxford about his grandfather’s legendary friendship with C. S. Lewis.
Of course, Owen Barfield’s adopted daughter Lucy is the very one whom Lewis dedicated his classic The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He also dedicated The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to Geoffrey Corbett, Owen’s adopted son.
Owen A. Barfield is the only grandchild of Owen Barfield. He was 28 when Barfield passed away, and became a trustee of the ‘Owen Barfield Literary Estate’ in 2006, succeeding Walter Hooper. In 2008, the ‘Barfield Press UK’ started as the publishing arm of the Literary Estate. In 2010, the archive of ‘Owen Barfield Papers’ was opened in the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford.
The C. S. Lewis Society is thrilled to have him as part of our tour along with Lewis Scholar Terry Glaspey – we envision a memorable time together! Hope you can join us…
