APRIL FOOLS! “Screwtape Letters: The Movie” Cast Announced!

Ralph Fiennes
Ralph Fiennes as "Screwtape"

For a while now we have heard rumblings  of a Screwtape Letters movie in the works. We have heard announcements for the director, the producer and the screen writer, but we have yet to learn who is going to play this roll.

The Screwtape Letters

Today, we are pleased to tell you that actor Ralph Fiennes ( Amon Gothe in Schindler’s List and Lord Voldemort in HarryPotter)will be voicing Screwtape, and actor Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park, The Social Network, HBO’s The Pacific)will be playing “The Patient.”

Fiennes is an acclaimed actor known for playing a wide range of villain rolls. On set of Schindler’s List he was so convincing he even scared some of his co-stars during the filming. He has also shared the screen two times with actor Liam Neeson.

”He oozes natural evil charm and charisma, “says an assistant to the casting director. “ I don’t know if that’s a good thing, but if you’re looking for a good villain they have to have that. Fiennes will bring it in spades.”

“And Mazzello just plays the every-man so well. You can look at him and see yourself in him. The patient needs that.”

Interestingly enough, Mazzello played Douglas Gresham in the film version of William Nicholson’s play The Shadowlands, which was based on the life of CS Lewis.

Fiennes and Mazzello will be joined by Robert Pattinson as Wormwood, Kristen Stewart as the woman the Patient falls in love with, Hugh Jackman  ( The X-Men films) as Fr. Spike, and Bob Newhart as “the Vicar” ( both characters appear in Letter 16). This is looking to be a truly epic film. Come back tomorrow for more exciting news on this film!

You can read more about the movie here, here, and here.

Update: They are making a minor change to the book. Namely that the woman the patient falls in love with is named “April” and her tempter is named “Fulz.”….

  1. My audition went SO well. I still can’t believe I didn’t get “The Patient’s Mother.”

  2. Oh, and if anyone is wondering about that picture of Robert Patinson… it’s amazing what one can dig up on TMZ,ICANHAZCHEEZEBURGER.COM, or a plane ol’ google search. Yes that pic is real.

  3. Yay! I’ve always wanted to see Bella, Edward and Voldemort star in a film together. Robert is lookin’ soo hot! **swoons**

      • Are you joking? I am not sure…and I am not wanting to sound mean…but that is one of the most hideous pictures of him (Robert) I have seen lol!

        • You know, I do wish there was a way to indicate sarcasm on the internet.

I did deliberatly choose that pic of Pattinson for that purpose. Every picture of him said , “Hi, I’m a smoldering A-List celeberity that girls find dreamy.” I wanted something that said ,”Hi, I’m an imcompetant tempter!” That was the pic that won!

          • LOL!
I don’t get why all the girls fall apart with him. He really freaks me out! He looks…creepy. At least to me!

  4. Not gonna lie… I have an old Screwtape Letters comic book adaptation from the 1990s (which was done by Thomas Nelson in conjuncture with Marvel Comics ) and Hugh Jackman and Bob Newhart do look a lot like that artist’s depictions of Fr. Spike and the Vicar respectively.

  5. 🙂 I wish they would officially make this into a movie…..fun cast though lol.

  6. here is a ugly comment..i would watch it if there is a ‘twilight’anything in any c.s. lewis books…( my sisters says this is ruining everything!!)

I,agian, would be able to do anything with this…pure evil.

  7. This is a joke right?????? I almost believed it until I saw Robert and Kriten. They suck! No offence to them, but I loath Twilight…..

  8. Okay….is this ANOTHER April fools? I mean come on!!! BETTY WHITE?! IN A LEWIS FILM? AND THOSE PEOPLE FROM THAT crazy Twilight series!? Ha ha ha ha…I hope!

Okay…just looked up again…Bob Newhart… now I KNOW this is a joke! LOL!

    • You know, i think they would. I’m not sure. I have heard so little about this film, it’s actually scary. At one point, last I checked, it was due out this year.
