Guillermo del Toro, one of today’s most prolific fantasy film makers, is in “final talks” to step into the directors chair for The Silver Chair. Fans may remember that he was previously attached to The Hobbit movie but had to bow out due to production delays.
del Toro had also been offered the chance to direct The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but turned it down. Sources close to the production say this was his favorite book in the series, and that he “Really liked the script, and was excited about working with the cast.”
Sources close to the production indicate that they are close to inking a deal with Chloë Grace Moretz (If I Stay, The 5th Wave) to play Jill Pole, while Tom Holland ( In The Heart of the Sea, and Peter Parker/Spider-Man in this summer’s Captain America: Civil War) will step into the role of Eustace, previously played by Will Poulter. Joining them will be del Toro frequent collaborators, Doug Jones as Puddleglum the Marshwiggle, and Ron Perlman as the Master of Harfang. Lynn Hilary of the popular Irish folk group Celtic Woman will make her big screen debut play the Lady of the Green Kirtle and will also contribute the song for the movie’s end credits and Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones) will play Prince Rilian. No word yet on who is voicing Aslan, but you can count on us to bring you that news once we receive it.
Del Toro does an amazing job bringing otherworldly creatures to life, and prefers using practical creature effects to CGI. Personally, I think he’s the perfect choice to direct, and I can’t wait to see him bring not only our beloved Puddleglum to life, but the creatures of The Underworld.
