NarniaFans Mailbag

Welcome to Mailbag #3. Read on, and then submit your own letters via our contact form.

Q: I love your website! It is a great source of information! I have a question about the upcoming release of the 4 disc special extended edition of LWW. I have read a bunch of articles on the internet, and each one says something different about how many minutes they are adding on. Do you know how long they are extending the movie, and what is going to be added?

-???

A: We have also heard many conflicting reports on the exact length of additional film that is to be added to the movie. As far as official runtime is concerned, when comparing the time on the press release to the time of the original version, there are ten extra minutes to account for. This could include extra credits at the end as well, so it may not be two whole minutes of extra film. We'll be sure to keep up-to-date on this topic.

Q: I heard reports earlier that the name of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was going to be changed. Is that still true? I hope not.

-Claire

A: I think that you're referring to our April Fool's Day joke, this year, that it was going to be called "The Voyage of the Black Rock" and concern the ship that is found in the television show "Lost." Rest assured, this was a joke, and is definitely not true. However, they are going to change the name. They're simply going to add "The Chronicles of Narnia" to the title, making it called "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."

Q: Hi!!! My name is Irene, I'm a spanish narnia fan, I love your site, it's just sooo cool. I have a question I'm desesperated to know the answer: Do you know if the extended 4 disc version of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe will come out in Spain? If so, do you know when?
Thank you so much,

-Irene

A: I will do some research, and contact the people that are in the know to get the answer for you.... as of publication, I have not heard a definite answer. I will post the answer as soon as I hear a definite yes or no.

Q: Hello, I love this site. I was looking through the Fan Reviews for the Narnia movie, and I saw that there was a contest. The best review would win a prize pack of some sort. I had sent a message like this many, many months ago, asking if it expired yet. I still haven't received a reply, so I would like to know if the contest is still running.
But it's been quite a long time since I first asked, so it probably isn't. :P Thanks!

-Metin

A: There are many great reviews on the site, and many that really took some time and looked at the movie for what it is. When it comes to the contest, yes, we are planning on picking some winners. Hopefully this will come very soon, as we've got lots of time before Prince Caspian hits theatres, and an Extended Edition to look forward to.

Q: Great job on the Mailbag. I'll try to write in every week, even if it's just to say "Hello". I'm a member of the forum, and it's a great place. I log onto NarniaFans every time I get on the computer.
Anyway, great job! May God Bless! Keep up the good work!

-Aslan_fan

A: Thanks! We much appreciate it! Tell your friends about us! We may not be able to post your letters every week, but we're glad to hear from fans!

Q: MAJOR SPOILER FOR THE LAST BATTLE, READER BEWARE: Hey, great site. Is there any news on how Adam and the gang plan to film the last Narnia movie? I haven't read it yet, but my friend told me that all four Pevensie kids are in it and not too much older. But if they film in order or whatever they wouldn't get to the last one for at least maybe another three years. Are they just going to ignore the fact that the kids are older or do they plan to film it soon?

-Steph

A: Hello Steph. This is a question that is on most of our minds. We're all wondering how they'll be able to pull this off. When they get to The Last Battle, it could very well be seven years from now. By then, however, the technology to handle this could be in place. Not many people know this, but in X-Men: The Last Stand, at the beginning, they actually filmed Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan, and with a computer program, they were made to look younger. This process happened as they were shooting. The results are very impressive, and if the children look too much older, this is a process they could very easily employ. It's just one way they could make them all appear in the film again.

UPDATE from "Wrong Will Be Right": First off,I'd like to say Narnia Fans is great fansite.I really enjoy the cast interviews and fan art section.Anyway I was reading the Mailbag 3 and read a question regarding the Last Battle. It said the kids weren't much older but they are.According to several Narnia timelines LB occurs in 1949,nine years after LWW. I think the best guess is that they will continue to film the movies in order, and with the original cast for the Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle. By the time these films are shot Will, Anna, Skandar, and Georgie will be the correct age. What do you guys at Narnia Fans think?

A: Thanks for the update! I totally overlooked that fact, and the Last Battle is my favorite of the Chronicles.

Q: Why aren't lyrics to songs for the soundtracks (like Can't Take It In, etc..) listed on the site? Or at least, the links to the lyrics?

-Aravis of Archenland

A: Actually, they are all on the site. If you click on "Music" and then "Film Music" it brings up the list, and you can click the links to read the lyrics!

Q: I was wondering if you knew if a extended soundtrack will ever be released. I have been to the Hans Zimmer (hans-zimmer.com) and listened to the mp3s which have left me desperately wanting more of Harry Gregson-William's beautiful music. Also, do you know if audio can be ripped from the Narnia DVD and how.

-Brendan

A: With the releases of the Lord of the Rings: Complete Recordings, I would love to see a similar effort for the Chronicles of Narnia scores. I haven't heard if they will be released and I'm sure it depends on demand for them. I'd say, your best bet is to write to the company that produced the score and ask them to produce it. Show that there is a demand for it, and there will be a greater chance of it actually coming out.

As far as getting the soundtrack off of the DVD, it would be a complicated process that is dependant on an isolated score being one of the audio tracks, and finding a way to capture just that track.

Q: Will Skandar, Anna, Will and Georgie be in the movee Prince Caspian?

-Leah

A: Yes, all four of them are returning to their roles as Edmund, Susan, Peter and Lucy. Liam Neeson is also returning to his role as Aslan!

And that's it for Mailbag #3!
