I can only speak for the Eldar, not the Edain. Men have tendancy to be beguiled by the dark powers. So if their histories are corrupt that is one thing, but ours is complete.
I was talking with the Vala just yesterday and they told me that history was corrupted to leave the hobbits' part out :O
