Jane Austen Club

My favorite Austen is "Emma" (Gweneth Paltrow version).
Does the BBC Pride and Prejudice have any bad words?
I really like that Emma too, the BBC version doesn't look near as good, but then, looks can be deceiving.
I think the P&P might have had a few swear words in it. I remember they said "Good God" a couple times (like in Emma), and I think that Wickham might have sworn (I wouldn't put it past him). Honestly though, beyond that I don't remember. I'm pretty sure that if there is, it's nothing severe, because I'd have been more likely to remember it.
Yeppers. They tell me message is too short. Why is it too short? I want to cry.
Oh, I'm sorry that you didn't like it. I think that I'm still going to see it sometime, but on the understanding that it isn't history and just a enjoyable (hopefully) movie. :)

On the subject of Persuasion. (We weren't, but anytime is a good time to talk about it! ) The Jane Austen Centre in Bath is having an exhibit of the costumes from the movie. Very fun to check out.

Now if only England weren't so insufferably far away! :(

The only Emma movie I've ever seen is the one with Gwyneth Paltrow, but I love that it. :D

Oh, I wish I could go to England. :( I want to travel all over the world one day (especially Europe), but I kind of doubt I'll ever be able to. I want to go to England and Ireland... I would love to get to see all of the Jane Austen "attractions" (if that's what you would call them, LOL) in Bath...the house where she lived and everything. But I guess I'm getting a little off topic.

Anyway, the biography-type book I'm reading about her is actually very interesting.

Okay,thank you,Alainea (I hope I spelled your name right...)
You are most welcome. It's actually Alaina, but I thank you for trying. :)

I enjoy that one. Mr. Knightly is wonderful!
Emma: "I couldn't believe it when she called him Knightly! And she seemed actually surprise to find him a gentleman! I doubt that he will return the favor and find her a lady!" ~
LoL :p Can't help but love Emma!

Okay, I have now seen the Kiera Knightly P&P and I thought it was very nice. I like the 1995 best, because it is closest to the book, but for being only a little over two hours the new one is very good and very faithful to the story. I enjoyed it very much and I hope I can see it again sometime. I can really see why you like it NATL, Kiera is a great Lizzie! :)

Subsequently, had you noticed the young actress that played Kitty? She also played Isabella Thorpe in the new Northanger Abbey, and Mr. Collins was Lord Beckett from Pirates of the Carribean!! That was quite a surprise!

Oh, yes, I love Mr. Knightley. :p

Yes, Keira Knightley is a very good Lizzie. She's very good at showing the change in Lizzie's attitude after Darcy's letter. She shows so much anger during the first proposal, but I love how she's so shy and insecure when she runs into him at Pemberley. And I love how her and Darcy carry on jokingly when she first meets Georgiana. All of the actors in that movie are great. Plus, the scenery in the movie is wonderful. And the music is so beautiful!! I have the soundtrack and listen to it all the time, and I have the piano solo sheet music for the movie, so I can picture every scene in my mind while I play the songs on the piano. :D

I didn't notice that she plays Isabella Thorpe! But my tape of "Northanger Abbey" isn't very clear, so I can't see the people very well. :( But yes, I definitely recognized silly Mr. Collins, LOL. I saw "Pride and Prejudice" before "Pirates of the Carribbean", so I found it quite funny to see his face again.

I got a copy of "Just Jane" last night. :D But I've got a couple more books to read first, so I'm not sure when I'll actually get to start reading it.

Who doesn't?! :p

I agree about the music. Very nice! I really enjoy playing the music from my favorite moives.
My biggest complant about that P&P (aside from the statues at Pemberly...totally unnecessary!) was that it was so rushed! They had all the parts and places, but they really ran through them! To be expected when a movie is only two hours I suppose. And for that short of time they did a great job.

Alaina..I will remember next time.

I loved the casting in theat Emma.I had seen another version, but the casting wasn't nearly as good.
Was that the BBC one? That's on PBS next, but I don't think I want to see it. It didn't look very good.

By the by, very nice avvy! Love Anne!!!!!

Maybe sometime I should try the Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightley again...
Maybe so. It is rather different, (the fashions, manners, ect.) but it is nice for a different interpretation.
For some reason, my favorite is "mansfield park". I dont know why. most people have crushes on mr. darcy, but i like edmund. oh well...
I can understand! Is it the movie, or the book, that you like best?

I like Wentworth myself! <3
Speaking of which, my bday was Sunday and I got Persuasion and the BBC P&P!!! :D I was so excited! I love Persuasion even more now that I've seen the whole thing! There were also some added scenes on the DVD that made it very much worth it! Anyway, I shan't tell you anymore but that it is very much well worth buying! :)

Later all!

~Alaina, Janeite!

Well, happy belated birthday. :D It's always nice to get something Austen for a gift, isn't it? I got the BBC Pride and Prejudice for Christmas the other year.

Thank you!:)

Mr. Knightley is my favorite male character, and Emma and Elenor (Sense and Sensability) are my favorite female characters.:D

Thank you very much. :) And yes it is! I had a very nice birthday, due in no small part to my Regency things! :D

I can understand. I'm reading Sense and Sensibility and I really like Elenior too! Mr. Knightley used to be my favorite guy... till I met Capt. Wentworth! :p

I can't really pick a favorite female character, but it would be between Lizzie, Emma, and Elinor. My favorite male character is of course Mr. Darcy, followed by Mr. Knightley and then Captain Wentworth. :D

I love her books I saw the movie and it was great . after I read some book I got from the library I'll go check out one of her books again :D.

Maybe it was P&P? We were talking a lot about that one....

Anyway, I would encourage all of you to watch the movies twice. You get a lot more out of them the second time and (in my case) like them better!

I know, the second time you see them you understand so much more..thats what happened to me the second time I watched Emma, and Sense and Sensability.:)

You catch little things and details that you missed to begin with when you watch a movie for the second time...and third, and so on. :D I love to watch movies over and over.

I do need to watch "Mansfield Park" and "Persuasion" over again (I have them on tape). But "Mansfield Park" is very blurry.
