Aww.. Poor Hope.

Nah, I still love the kits. But the dragons just so cute! BTW congrats on stealing my word :p ;)

Haha, I had to laugh at that. :p

Yeah, poor Hope. But in my stories I reflect the real lives of my cats and kittens; Hope's eye is damaged in real life and whether or not she can see out of it I don't know. So I had to make Hope's eye injured in my books- like Misty's leg (it sticks out in real life)- and this seemed the perfect time in which to do so. Like I said in my authors note for Mozart "my story which, in a way, really did happen..."

I stole your word?

lol, "You I don't know whats"

*Shrugs* As far as I know Charies was originally my word.

oh, ok.:D

When the two arrived back at the camp they were imediatly taken to Claw.

"So you lived did you?" he said passivly, "I must say you've got more spunk than any of my band, but that is something that is frowned upon in slaves. However since the slave is injured I will let that be punishment enough. Afterall when a cat broke through my former master's defenses once he was tossed in prison with the wounds he had aquired. Now git both of you!" and to the slavers "Take the slave back, cowards."

Hope was pushed roughly back in line with her friends.
"Hopie what happened?!? Is Shady O.K.?!?" then Fire saw her friend's eye and fell silent.
Tansy spoke up though, "What nappened to your eye Hopie?" she asked inocently.
So Hope told them the story. The five little kits shuddered at the part with the swamp monsters and looked horrified at the part with the hawk.

"How horrybible!" squeaked Jako when she had finished.
"Hwere lemme cwean your eye Hopie." Pumpkin had found a rag and wetted it in some water, now she gently cleaned Hope's injured eye with it. Though the kit was as careful as she could be Hope had to keep from screaming in pain several times.
"Dere." said Pumpkin when she had finished.

As the days wore on Hope's injured eye became covered in a thin white layer of something (maybe her third eyelid) and at one point became infected and developed a large bump on the white thing. She looked horrible at that time but it hardly ever hurt her. Sometimes though when she heard a hawk or saw one her eye would hurt again haunting her as some unforgotten nightmare.

Chapter 21
Winter's first touches

"Ribbony I'm cold."
"You've already said that Frodo."
"Well now I'm even colder!" complained the young cat.
Ribbony chuckled, "Well then you'll get colder and colder unless your fur grows some." though he appeared unconcerned Ribbony worried about the kit; it was the end of October and the snow had been late in coming (In Kreemka their seasons are slightly different than ours so October is the begining of winter for them) and Ribbony knew that would mean a lot of snow when it finally hit. Frodo had not grown his coat out much- for that matter neither had Ribbony- because where they had been adventuring was fairly warm for that time of year. (Tunnels are not all that cold, neither is land near swamps.)
Ribbony's concern was that when they got to Snow Valley one of its legendary snowstorms would hit and one or either of them would freeze. Snow Valley you see was unavodible; it was the only pass in a huge range of mountians. The mountians could not be gone around unless you took weeks, indeed even months to find the ends of them. Ribbony and Frodo did not have time for that. So unless you would brave going over the mountians (you would more than likely die if you tried though) Snow Valley was the only way through the silent ancient sentials of the mountians.

Ribbony sighed. This was going to be very hard. Even as he thought of these things though a tiny snowflake landed on his nose.

*Shivers*
;):p

Snow Valley is based on where I live in Ohio in case you wondered.:p Certainly feels like Snow Valley!

Mozart was having likewise thoughts at staying warm. They had not brought their warm cloaks (except Mozart because her white cloak was the only one she had) because they had hoped to be back before winter.
'So now w'da we do?' she wondered.

Caspian on the other paw was worried about his sister. Mozart had been working hard and pushing it past her normal ablities, every day.
'She's our leader, our advisor, the best warrior among us I think and my sister; thats alot of things to be! And she's so little.... even though I know that doesn't matter. Still I want to keep her safe.'

Dorthy was begining to really dislike this adventure. She was cold, discoraged and homesick.
'And at this pace we'll miss Christmas! I wish I knew where we were going too. Oh grr. Mister White Cat; I'd really like to end this venture soon and I'm sure everybody else wants to too, so please let us find those troblesome kits!'

Toto didn't know what to do. He had a responsiblity that he felt had been placed on him the day he was born to keep his siblings safe but it was hard in the wilderness.
'Oh please help me keep them safe Mister White Cat, I almost lost Mozart once I don't wanna repeat that...'

Sanga was curious. He had never been this far into the wilderness before and it was fasinating to him.
'Well I don't know what the others think but I want to keep exploring! Its better than staying in Freedom Forest all my life!'

Braveheart was just glad he had found someone who would finally help them to find his sister.
'I'd have never been able to go this far without them, I just couldn't have.'

Silverpaw also missed her sister and was glad they had found the LFF Catlition.
'Otherwise I'd have been stuck with my brothers this whole time!'

Shaggy was hopeful as always. He had become good friends with these kits and had also gained an unseen friend.
'I bet the White Cat will keep Hopie an' those other kittens safe like he did to us in that sandstorm.'

Smokey missed her brother but she did her best to take his place at least for Shadow.
'I miss Frodo so much, he always took care o' me and Shada, now we may never see him again... But maybe we will.'

Shadow followed mutely in the middle of the group. The loss of her brother had also hit her hard.
White Cat, keep F'odo safe, please.'

That's quite a mixture of feelings.

Yep, but they're all different cats with all differnt problems.... thats what the Fire Kitten says anyway.
Oh yeah and that reminds me; be ready for an ironic twist at the end.... the end which is coming upon us.
Lets see theres Snow Valley, stuff about Ventargo, the battle, the unexpected twists (hey thats a good name for a chapter!), what happens after that, and then the events at the end. So I suppose theres still a ways to go.
And remeber Dorthy's thought "At this pace we won't be home for Christmas!"

Fire also noticed the cold. Illnesses were starting to creep in because of so many creatures in one space.
It was several days since they had left the swamp. They had had no further problems thankfully and Hope had been the only one with an injury.

On the third day since Sinking Swamp Fire noticed Jako was sniffling and sneezing. She hoped that he wasn't getting sick because those who became ill were abandoned so that "Others will not be contaminated" Claw had said.

Gradually though Fire, Creamy, Pumpkin and Tansy all began to catch Jako's cold. It was only because of Shady and Fire's friendship that they were spared. You see Shady had started to seperate them from the main group a bit so that they were less noticed but still under her care.

Now in Kreemka there is a sickness called Kitten Cold which at one point almost every kitten gets. With the right care they come out of it fine but if they are not taken care of they can die from it. This among other similar things was what was affecting Fire and her siblings. Hope was too old to get it (normally only kittens under six months get Kitten Cold) and Shady never got it bad, neither did Pumpkin, Creamy or Tansy but they were sniffly for several days.

It hit Jako and Fire the worst. Their eyes were watery and their noses stuffed up. They had coughing and sneezing fits and for a couple days had fevers. Fire found her sight blurry and unclear during those days.
Hope cared for them. She was a motherly figure to the little kits and also a role model; they knew her eye pained her daily but she put it aside to help the others as well as she could, and it was not even just Fire and her siblings that she helped; Hope had an uncanny knowledge of healing plants and it served her well for she found herself taking care of many young kit's whose care-givers (if they even had any) did not want them abandoned.

Then after about two weeks Fire looked ahead of her and saw a long mountian range as far as her eyes could see. The mountians were more than a mile high but from afar looked like only tiny spires rising into the clouds.
Jako shivered, "How'll w-w-we get past th-th-them th-th-things?" he stuttered.
"Claw's been sayin' summat about a valley in'tween the mountians that we're headin' for." Shady told them, "We get dere in 'bout four days time he says."
Hope shook her head and told Shady, "Now lissen here kit; I saved your life now you're gonna help me save these kits an' yours again. Get me all the animal skins and spare blankets you can find, a needle or a sharp rock an' some thread."
"What'che gonna do Hope?" asked Tansy.
"I'm gonna make you kits and all the other kits cloaks, shirts and anything warm I kin think of that you can wear." Hope replied, "An' I'm gonna need your help..."

As Hope spoke Fire saw a snowflake land in front of her.
"Betta hurry Hope, 'cause the snow ain't waitin' for ya!"

Chapter twenty two
Snow Valley

Fire wiped snow out of her eyes. They had been steadily getting closer to the pass and the weather had gotten progressively worse the nearer they got to it.

Snow Valley was a hostile place. No one lived there and often those who went in did not come back out again. It was always snowing there, even in summer. There was only one day a year that it never snowed and oddly it was the same day as Ribbony and his three sibling’s birthday.
The temperatures in that valley often got down past zero and it had once reached below fifty. Most of the time though the temperatures hovered between a high of about fifteen and a low of about minus fifteen, rarely it got up into the twenty’s.
Most valleys one would think would be more sheltered than open areas and that is true for most places… but not Snow Valley. The wind blows down from the mountains into it, covering it with an eternal layer of snow. Frozen ponds and lakes are treacherous and if you linger in that valley for more than several hours you begin to freeze. Your very blood can freeze there. I will not tell you much more of it or else grown-ups may not let you read this. Yet there is some good news; Ribbony, Dora, Explorer, Creamy and Claw had all made it out of that valley alive.

Hope and all the other she-cats or she-kitten slaves had worked together to get all of the jackets and cloaks ready. After laboring over it as long as they could (they sewed while they walked) they had finished every one of them. Hope had even made an extra one for Shady.

Fireheart, Tansy and Pumpkin had all worked together to make one too and presented it to Hope.
“Well thank you very much young kits.” Hope said as she received it, “I shall treasure it always in memory of my LFF’s.”
Tansy’s mouth dropped open, “You said LFF! Dats the LFF Catlition!”
“Really? I just nick-named you that because LFF stands for little furry friend.”
The three kittens stared at each other in awe, “Wow, Hope knows what LFF means! Neva woulda thought it.” Muttered Pumpkin, for you see all the kittens had thought that LFF was their special abbreviation and that nobody knew what it meant except them.

(Yes I know this is LWW-ish I mean it to be that way.;))

The next day they entered Snow Valley.
At first it wasn’t all that bad but gradually the weather got worse and worse; snow whipped around them trying to tear them away from each other.

Before they had quite entered the valley though Fire had happened to look up and see a black speck high above them. ‘Prol’y just an eagle.’ She thought but when she glanced again there seemed to be another, much smaller speck with the first one.

Hope pulled her cloak closer around her. The temperature was well below freezing and with the wind-chill it must have been at least minus twenty.
The five little kittens huddled close stumbling to keep up. Fire suddenly noticed though that Jako was nowhere to be seen. She panicked for a moment but then heard a frightened cry; Jako stumbled into view a little ways behind them. He had a wild terrified look in his eyes.
“What happened?” she asked her twin.
He shuddered, “There’s, there’s…. oh I can’t even speak of it!” he shivered violently as they continued walking, but from fear or cold Fire was never sure.

What Jako had seen were the captives of the valley. They were creatures who had been encased in ice. They were all still alive but so frozen that they could not move or speak or do anything. Their eyes were still open, staring at whoever was unlucky enough to pass them by. Ribbony had once been told that these sad prisoners would someday be released from their icy bonds, but when that day was he did not know, for he had only ever heard that it was to happen when ‘The scorching warmth of the earth opens and cracks to melt the Snow Valley and free its occupants.’
The ‘occupants’ of Snow Valley were kept alive by the very thing that held them; the ice. The ice that surrounds them is so thick that nothing can harm them, not the wind, not the cold, not anything. So was their fate.

Tansy had never been the musical or artistic one of her family but like any young child or kit she was creative. So the young kit made up a song about Snow Valley. It is as follows;

“Snows alla time,
Neva stops,
Keeps snowin everyday.
Freezes my paws,
Makes me rweal cold,
Makes me wish I was home.
I won’t never complain,
‘Bout snowstorms at home never again,
‘Cause if I wive den I won’t neva forget,
Snow Valley an’ its cwod.
Snoooooooow Vaaaaaaaaalleeeeeey!
Keep your snow in your valley!
Snoooooooow Vaaaaaaaaalleeeeeey!
You rweally need to work on your welcomin’ skills as Miss Dora would say!
And I’ll be gwad,
When I leave,
This bad owd Snow Valley!”

You are making me so cold.:D
The song was adorable! Especially the part about keeping the snow in the valley and working on welcoming skills.

Yea, sweet little Tansy :D (if you're still reading this Kitty then Tansy's song was for you; I gave her a cute part because you at least used to like her.;))
Yes this part of the story is very cold.:p

This part is fun.:D

“I’m cold Mozart.”
“We all are, Shads.”
Mozart and her Catlition were less than a day behind Claw but Snow Valley was the worst danger Mozart had ever faced.
‘Cogg was a fluffy bunny compared to this place.’ She thought

Caspian shivered, “Hey where’s Smokes?” he asked suddenly.
“She was just here, Smokey! Smokey!” called Sanga.
There was no response.
Shadow screamed, “SMOKEY!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!?” she ran out into the storm, searching for her sister.
“No! Shadow! Stop!” Mozart ran after Shadow.
“MOZART!!” cried Caspian running after her.
“Alright nobody else going and running off, got it?” Toto hissed to those who were left.

“SMOKEY!”
“SHADOW!”
“MOZART!!”
“CASPIAN!!”
“CATLITIOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

All the kittens turned to see who had uttered the cry. Mozart found herself face-to-face with Ribbony who was carrying Smokey in his mouth and with Shadow walking beside him. Caspian ran up beside her, eyes wide.

Then, oh joy! A small gray kitten, Ribbony’s tiny twin, skidded up to them.
“FRODO!!!” Smokey wrenched herself from Ribbony’s gentle grasp and leapt onto her long-lost brother, Shadow followed suit.

Ribbony smiled.
“How did you-” began Toto who had brought the others up.
“Jak can’t keep secrets.”
Mozart’s eyes widened, “So you were following us this whole time?!?”
