Hey, I've never learned much about Indonesia! So, here are some questions:

1. What major cultures/people groups are there?
2. Is there one major group in each place or do a lot of different groups mix?
3. Would you consider the people in general to be more polite or more rude compared with Americans?
4. What main foods do the people eat?
5. Is there a lot of poverty?
6. What is the ordinary procedure for visiting a neighbor/friend? (Like, do you call first? Wait till they invite you? Just show up? Knock on the door? Yell, "I'm here!"?)

I could go on...

Okay.....so many questions and they are so interesting to be answered:
1. JAVAnese are the major cultures of Indonesia, it caused of transmigration program that held some years ago

2.There's always be a major group in every place....like if you go to Bali, you'll find lots of balinese, you go to Sumatra, you'll find so many Sumatranese...and so on...but mixture of cultures is common thing here.

3.Actually, I don't know how American people in fact. I only know American from movies and shows so I couldn't compare both of them.

4.We eat RICE in common...but in some place like Papua and Irian Jaya (East Indonesia) they eat SAGU.

5. Sadly...I can say...yes....The number of poverty in Indonesia is increasing time after time..

6.It depends how close are you with your neighbor....if you still new...you gonna visit your neighbor and introduce yourself. But if you know them well, you could visit them anytime....but I myself usually called them first before I get there..

There's just a few information that I can give you... :D any more questions?

Yeah!
1. Since you don't know any Americans, do you know any other cultures you could compare it to?
2. What is an Indonesian wedding ceremony like?
3. Are there any Christians there?

Thanks so much for answering these questions! This is so cool!!

I'm glad you asked us for that :)

1. Mmmm...I don't know what should I say coz mostly...I only compared with another country but based on the movie or shows...we looks like Malay.(Grace...could you help me for this one :D)

2. Indonesian wedding ceremon(ies) also depends of the traditional cultures. I'm a Javanese and in Javanese culture there a ceremony called "siraman" for the bride...it's like bathing with flower's water to "purify" our soul before we going to the ceremony. And also a ceremony (I forget the name) that the bride should wash the broom's feet and so on. Actually, Indonesian wedding ceremon(ies) are complicated, so in this modern era, we usually didn't do that.

3.There's so many Christian in Indonesia. I have a Christian bestfriend and we almost like true sister in my real life. And I think Grace herself are Christian, are you, Grace?

I'm sorry if my answers won't satisfied you, SW....

Nessa......You make wanna go to your country soon :D

My co-worker danny (I love that name) is also from Muslim origin. Her dad was muslim. Her mom was Chrisytian I believe. But it was very friendly all together she said. Thanks for the tradition Danny! I love to hear about traditions.

Can you answer this question?
How do you celebrate Christmas (if you celebrate Christmas) and the New Year?

I absolutely don't mind!!!!! Why should I let you down because you don't celebrate Christmas? I think it is cool to have a friend like you!!

Thank you soooo much, Vanessa...for your understanding :)

We have Iedul Fitri...our biggest day like Christmas for you.We usually make "ketupat", a food made from rice too, which put in a square shape place that made from coconut's leaves. And we eat it with 'opor ayam', a food that made from chicken which cook with some spices and coconut milk. (God...i'm hungry) And the greatest thing is...our big family usually gather in one place and enjoy the day together. we called it 'silaturahmi'

That a thing that I can explain so far... :D Do you know what 'Ketupat' looks like, Vanessa?

I believe my co-worker has told me about that day. But that was a while ago.
No my dearest Dani. I have no clue how ketupat looks like. Are you going to explain it to me? :D ;)
