It's been a while since I've seen either. I do know it nearly mirrors the book perfectly. The added in all of Soda's scenes, including one at the beginning of the movie where soda and Ponyboy talk in bed , and he comforts pony. they cut out all the fun-time scenes in the abandoned church (rabbit hunting, lots of the montages of pacing and one sort GWTW reading). The movie starts out differently too, with pony boy getting jumped, and the boys coming to his rescue. You see the court room scene, and the man who offers the cigeratte in the hospital also has more dialog with another character. Also, most of the sappy music has been replaced with Rock and Roll music from the era save for the opening credits which has 'all is Golden' still (the credits are new, but I still hate the song). Much better than the theatrical version.
