Why did I feel this was inevitable? We waited 15 years for the next instalment of Narnia. 90% of the audience for a Narnia movie are fans of the books and CS Lewis and Netflix is shutting their primary audience out for one that isn't there. Even though Walden Media didn't stick to the books at...
After reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West I guess I should finish the last two Harry Potter book. I have been delaying it because I know the last 2 books are very dark. After Sirius Black died in book 5 I really needed a break.
I just finished reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. I did start to like the book toward the end when all the talk about Elphaba's sex life ended and Dorothy showed up. I was hoping the book would pull in all the stray threads of the book's plot and bring it back...
Finally finished The Order of the Phoenix. First I will say I liked the book. But in the end I was not satisfied. There are always plot problems at the end. The plot device of the magic hand mirror I guess was to create irony, but then you ask why didn't Sirius remind Harry about the the...
I am over half way thru The Order of the Phoenix. I find this book very simular to Lewis' That Hideous Strength. The good and bad conflict is presented simularly. Professor Umbridge is almost a copy of "Fairy" Hardcastle. Harry is much like Jane and Mark combined. The order of the Phoenix...
Reading The Order of the Phoenix now. Since it was written 20 years ago, even though I never watched the movies or read the books before, I still know that Sirius dies. Hard not to hear things on the internet. Well, I hope he dies well.
After reading about the Yule Ball or more accurately the Tournament Ball since it is only held when there is a tournament, I get the feeling J K Rowling understands boys very well. The stress on jealousy by the boys should have been more directed as inadequacy.
2/3rds thru book 4 in the Harry Potter series. I hope Sirius Black has more of a roll than just appearing the one time in the fire place. I hope Harry takes Ron's little sister to the tournament ball.
I feel that many compare JK Rowlings' books with Lewis' CON books. Do anyone else feel they more match Lewis' Space trilogy, but in a children's version. Like Lewis' works they seem to be very political and stress the diabolical.
The Narnia series will not be made as long as Netflix waste its' money on things like Cleopatra. It has essentially the lowest audience score possible on Rotten Tomatoes, a 1%.
Ted Sherman has a YouTube channel where he lectures on the subjects of Harry Potter and Tolkien. He is a professor out of Middle Tennessee State University.
Actually a time device also creates multiple Hermiones, but in a "splitting" device there is no problem of a grandfather effect. A time device is always just a a weak plot fixer. It fixes all cliff hangers. It throws you into the absurd. In Science Fiction it often is used when the series...
Using a time travel device in Harry Potter book 3 is a very weak plot device. Just adds a big device flaw. Time travel rarely works out in fiction. I was hoping for a cloning device, where you just had multiple Hermione.
Well, I finished the 3rd Harry Potter book and I am now at chapter 4 of the 4th book. It's a big book. Is Harry's uncle a jerk till the end of the series?
Well thru half way in the 3rd Harry Potter book. Yes, by now I have heard spoilers that Sirius Black is not the bad guy in the end. But I knew from the beginning that Rowling would make him into her fake villain. Just as Snape really isn't that evil, just a jerk.
