A bit of Poetry

Not songs, or prose! Poetry, yaaaaay! *throws confetti*

Ahead of time, if you're willing to read these, thank you so much. All of these poems were written this past Saint Patricks Day, and the styles vary quite a bit. It starts off childlike, light-hearted, but there are some very emotive ones in there. My best friend thinks I should try to publish a book of poetry, but I'm unsure. Comments and critique are very welcome :D

Spring

The birds are chirping endlessly
The dandylions are flying free
The animals rest in the garden bed
It's Spring

The buds are beginning to show
The trees are dancing slow
Slowly, slowly now they sway
It's Spring

The grass begins to grow again
I take a walk with you, my friend
In this new beginning, sing
It's Spring!

Break Away

What greater goal in life
Than to set yourself free
To see yourself be
Independant
Break away free

What greater joy is there
Than to set yourself up
To skip and frolick
Independant
Break away free

What greater life for thee
Than to let yourself go
To sit back and know
Destiny
Holding on now

What greater fate for life
Than to fly, then mother
To care for another
Independant
Planting roots

(inspiration for this poem was a dandelion)

Eyes

To look into your eyes
To see what's really there
To see behind your soul
Will you look into mine?

What will I find in there?
What will my search see?
What will you hide from me?
Will you look into mine?

I found a love there
But it was hidden deep
I found a lie there
Was it meant for me?

Beneath your lie was fear
Beneath your lie was grief
Beneath your love was weak
Was it meant for me?

I can't figure you out
I can't figure your mind
I can't figure your heart
It was never meant to be

I looked into your eyes
I looked into your being
I looked without return
It was never meant to be

Dance

Dance your heart out
To a beat not heard
Dance, dear friend
With natures livelyness

With the birds' song
With the winds waltz
With the suns beam
With the shining stars

Dance the day away
Dance til the moon is high
Dance with the early birds
Dance the day away

Dance your soul out
To the beat of life
Dance, dear friend
For joy has returned

Hold My Hand

I was falling when you found me
I had fallen a bit too much
And then you found my body

You came and picked me up
You took hold of this broken thing
And what you did came naturally

I was saved through your faith
I got on my feet and jumped
And when I landed, sang

You helped me climb this mountain
You told me it would be all right
And to my surprise, I believed you

With love we begin our descent
With hope we trust each other
With faith we believe in Truth

As we jump these rocks
Hold my hand
As we walk these deserts
Hold my hand
As we greet another
Hold my hand
As we say goodbye
For the last time
Until we meet again
Hold my hand

Two Roads

Which way will you travel?
Which road will you go?
There's enough detours to last a lifetime
But only two roads to go

A road of pain and sorrow
A road of empty love
Will you find yourself here
Hiding under the rug?

A road of healing joy
A road of redeeming love
Will you stand up here
Radiating through the mud?

Which way will you travel?
You haven't much time
There's enough detours to destract you
But only two roads to go

Broken Pieces

I can't believe you fell
What happened to your rock?
Your foundation seemed to be strong

I can't believe you cracked
What are these broken pieces?
Your house was standing tall, proud

Was that your downfall?
Was prides storm too much?
Did you refuse help?
Did you give in to your lust?

I can't believe you shattered
What will happen to your family?
Your love was them was holding true

I can't believe you're broken
What has happened to your life now?
Your face is withered, wrinkled, small

Is this really your defeat?
Is this how you go out?
Do you give in to your addictions?
Do you plan to just give up?

Duty (this poem was a joke for my friend)

Oh, what a duty
To wash and dry
What is this duty?
To fold over and over again
It makes me cry

Oh, what a duty
To fry and sizzle
What is this duty?
To flip over and over again
Preparing foodizzle

Yet the end is nigh
For it's a Springy day
And I can skip around

With the flow of Chopin
Gracing my eardrums
Among other masters
Night on Bald Mountain

Oh, what a duty
To be a kid
And make the best
Out of the chores

What is this duty?
Being childish calls
I can't help but answer
To play and obey

Through The Fire

Promise after promise
We always swore we'd last
Fight after fight
We always seemed to apologize
Year after year
I could feel myself slipping
Visit after visit
You cared less and less
Day after day
You lied without remorse
Promise after promise
We didn't make it through the fire
Hour after hour
I miss you a bit less
Tear after tear
I wish things happened differently

Keeping The Secret

I cannot think of much
That I truly regret
But this is one thing
That pokes me with a thorn

I told you I didn't care
And it never much bothered me
I told you both the truth
But perhaps it was wrong?

I told you it irked me
And almost held a grudge
Towards both of you, maybe
I could never make up my mind

I cannot fully express
How both lies were true
How passionately I wish
I could get back to you

Keeping the secret, nay
I couldn't hold it in
I felt I hated it too much
But was it a sin?

Moon

Dearest Earth,
May I lie on your hill?
Soak up the smell
Of the after-rain

Dearest Sky,
May I breathe in your air?
Gaze through you
And your protection

Dearest Space,
May I try to see you?
Sit in awe
Of your endlessness

Dearest Stars,
May I wish upon you?
Hope in beauty
And believe in you

Dearest Moon,
May I sink into you?
Drown my heart
In love for you

Dearest Lord,
May I worship You?
Surrender in peace
In faith of You

Snow

Once upon a time
I saw a grey sky
I never knew what it meant
Until my mother told me why

She told me to look to the sky
And see that there was nothing
But colorless grey
That would soon bring snow

I could not help but wonder
What she meant by that
I knew of rain and wind
Endless tornadoes, rolling thunder

But snow was a myth
Seen in pictures, read in books
What would this grey bring
Before the sky went black?

I walked inside to get my coat
For I knew it was supposed to be cold
And wondered how grey could bring snow
From how white I'd heard it was

I sat on the porch, rocking
Waiting for this snow
Positive my mother was daft
Waiting for the rain, no!

Look, it drifts lightly
And comes down different, too
There's no weight to it
What -is- it? Something new

I went back inside
For fear of this snow
And waited a while
Until it would pass

I came back a few hours later
Only to be blinded in light
I couldn't keep my eyes open
Was this what it was like?

A minute or two and I was used to it
Certain I'd lost my mind, I walked
Round and round the neighborhood
And my heart lept out of this beauty

Running down deserted roads
Leaving prints in virgin snow
I gasped, knowing without a doubt
There was so much to which I was missing out

I ran back to my mother
To tell her of the beauty I'd seen
She looked at me with an odd face
Perhaps it was all a dream?

Dark

Without You I'm lost
Lost in a dark realm
Sinking into abyss

Cold as ice
Cold as bare bones,
Frozen gemstones

Dark and dank
Utterly infested
Sinking into abyss

Light

I found myself with You
I was blessed enough to see
Found in pure light

You warm my soul
You warm my bones
The Gem of my life

Pure and holy
Through and through
Found in pure light

Morning Nap

You take a morning nap
And then another soon
One in the afternoon
And then another tonight

Every so often you
Go for the food
You run in circles
And then nap again

You cry endlessly
Waiting for something
But when we come to you
You kick and scream

I don't know what to do with you
You're always such a pain
Kicking, screaming, clawing, biting
A spoiled housecat if you ask me

Illusion

This mirror holds much
Many a relfection

This mirror shows views
Valley deep, ocean wide

This mirror on the wall
It does not show all

This mirror shows myself
Crying in the night

This mirror holds you
Standing by my side

This mirror on the wall
It does not show all

This mirror holds hope
It shows you behind me

This mirror shows lies
You're not coming back

I turn around and look
There's nothing there

This mirror on the wall
It will only show an illusion

Winter

A chill down my spine
A bleak, dreary sky
The winter overwhelming
As the blast is coming

We hibernate and hide
In our dark lives
We wait til it's no more
A bleak, dreary life

Autumn

A leaf fallen on my shoe
A dead, Autumn sight
The road is overflowing
As the leaves are slipping

We prepare and wait
In our organized lives
We wait til it's coming
A dead, white sight

Summer

A flower in my hair
A hot, Summer day
The sun is scorching
As the sweat is rolling

We run and jump
In our carefree lives
We wait for nothing but
A hot, Summer night

Gray

Where did you go?
Where are you, sun?
Past this gray sky
I don't see you come

You're well overdue
Are you still coming?
Or will this only be
You, sun, running?

Yellow

Past these deadened trees
I can almost see you set
The sky has turned a yellow
Only you can make, I bet

This chilly wind threatens
Of the season that's coming
But I'll cling to you here
And sing for you, humming

Pink

In this clear open sky
You paint the horizon pink
Even though it's almost blue
And there's purple, I think

Sun, oh sun, why must you go?
I'll wait all night to see you
I'll wait to see you shine again
In the new, clear open sky

No time

Time, time
Keep in time
Even if
There is no rhyme

Keep in
Key
Keep in
Focus

Time, time
Keep in time
Follow them
Notes on the line

Keep in
Posture
Keep in
Practice

Time, time
Keep in time
What are we
If there is no time?

Challenge (written 3/19/09)

This life won't be met
It's a guarantee, not bet
This life won't be met
Without a fair few regret

This life won't be mine
I'll pass out of world time
This life won't be mine
I have to do more than fine

It's a challenge to reach
To stretch, to seek
A challenge to do, be, face
Pick your fate to embrace

Love (written 3/21/09)

Let the sun come out
Over these muddy grounds
Varily, I say to thee
Eternity has no limit to my love

Lest you shy away now
Only in my nightmares
Varily, I say to thee
Eternity has no limit to my love

Lonely shall I be
Overwhelmed in grief
Varily, I say to thee
Eternity has no limit to my love

Luxury shall be mine
Out of your friendship
Varily, I say to thee
Eternity has no limit to my love

Love will overcome
Over every deed
Varily, I say to thee
Eternity has no limit to my love

"Eyes" and "Moon" were among my favorites here. " Through the Fire" was painfully poignant; it made me grateful again that my two marriages ONLY ended with the BODILY death of each wife in turn, rather than by love dying. You have several really on-target phrases, like the spoiled-housecat line. And I was delighted to see the reference to Moussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." Did you know that Moussorgsky was a personal friend of the artist whose works inspired his composition?

Thanks so much! Those two are my personal favorites, and I'm glad someone caught the reference! I did not know that, actually. I just went to Wikipedia and read up on it. That's so cool :D
