Adventures in Odyssey

Has anyone been listening to Adventures in Odyssey's Green Ring Conspiracy? Is it just me or does Mr. Skint sound like Trumpkin? Trumpkin always says things like "beards and bedsteads." Mr. Skint says things like "dominoes and double-bluffs" all the time! I doubt this is coincidence!

I do like the old ones better, but Odyssey is still awesome!

However, I do see what you mean about them becoming more politically correct. They have stopped airing their episode against abortion (Pamela Has a Problem). I don't know if they have an official reason for that, but it does seem that they are becoming more politically correct.

I think my favorite AIOs are the Novacom saga and anything involving Jared.

Roughtly quoted:
Jared:"I can't believe she counted that wrong! That was so an opinion question!"
Another kid: "Jared, it is not an opinion question! John F. Kennedy did NOT kill Abraham Lincoln!"
Jared: "That's what they WANT you to think!"

Jared is pretty awesome.

I haven't heard new Odyssey material, but I already know why they would feel a need to yield some ground. Focus On The Family has been under fire for decades, being falsely accused of "hate speech" by persons who are themselves the REAL haters.

Well, as I recall, Jesus wasn't exactly loved for what He claimed to be, so why should Focus back down on their stance? To me it's just another example of a Christian company yielding ground to Satan, which is how things become so morally corrupt in the first place. Franklin Graham doesn't yield ground, and I doubt he ever will. And don't even get me started about why I think Dobson left....or rather, was pushed out.

But I prefer the old AIO's. I also don't like the new ones because Paul Herlinger (the second Mr. Whittaker) and Walker Edmiston (Tom Riley/Bart Rathbone) passed away in the last two years. Not the same without them on the show.

I didn't say I was _glad_ that F-O-F backed down, only that I could understand why. I earnestly hope that if I ever come under so _much_ attack as they have experienced, I will have a Holy Spirit backbone.

I also understand (with similar views here to copperfox). My dad works in Christian radio... Focus on the Family has been going through a lot just to stay on the air. Not that its right, but naturally they have become more "politically correct" in an effort to continue their ministry. Perhaps they finally felt that they had to in order to continue on as a ministry. All Christian ministries eventually come upon these hard decisions. And, we don't always make the rigtht decisions. But that is what the Body of Christ is there for, to uphold them in prayer that they will find wisdome and strength to hold fast to their convictions and values.

Anyways, I grew up with Adventures in Odyssey and loved them. I always liked... Rodney Rathbone and Wooten... haha we have a thread about Odyssey somewhere on tdl where we have discussed the show before. There are quite a few people here who have listened and loved the program :D

Several months ago, Wood Nymph and I visited Focus on the Family Headquarters in Colorado Springs. They now have a large, elaborate simulation of "Adventures in Odyssey." This includes a near-life-size replica of a propeller-driven airplane from World War Two. If I'm not mistaken, Whitt was supposed to be a World War Two combat veteran. The radio series was created at a time when such a veteran COULD HAVE still been alive and ambulatory.
