Animated LWW Blu Ray

Ah... thought you were saying it was being released!

But it'd probably be a very shyly released edition with few or no extras, if anything. Maybe just better off getting a cheaper DVD version? I might brave it sometime.

I doubt it.
Being Cel animated (aposed to 2D Digital Animation), it would require a new HD master without DVNR (Digital Video Noise Reduction), and a restoration (to remove Print/negative damage, scratches, cel dust , and Cel shimmer). This would be costly. I'm not sure who owns the copyright and who owns the negatives. I'm assuming The Children's Television Workshop would have some rights, but BBC (via WB) just rereleased it on DVD a few months ago. Now it is possible that it would be released on Blu without restoration, but that would mean a horrible picture quality (like the Secret of NIMH Blu which had zero restoration).

I just got the new DVD of the animated version. I remember it was so cool when I first saw it almost 30 years ago. But I was young. The voices weren't even British.

Ah, but there are TWO versions of that film. The one released in the UK had some of the more blatantly American voices replaced by British ones. Well, British in the sense that Leo Kern spent a lifetime overcoming his Australian dialect to be able to do films like Rumpole of the Old Bailey.

You can actually hear the differences for yourself on my website.

Yes, I own both versions of the film in a DVD form playable on an American TV (NTSC 24)...with the proviso that you are using a flat screen TV. Flat screen TVs can change the refresh rate to 24, tube TVs are frozen at 30.

If you wonder why there are different standards, consider this: the frame rate has to be an even division of the AC frequency used so that the switching in the power supply won't tear up the picture.
