Ever since Nikki Anderson can remember she has always been playing maid for her step mother Blair and her step-sisters Aundrea and Amber who are constantly demanding her to do things that their too lazy to do and belittling her.
Aside from waiting on her step mother and sisters, when Nikki has the time she's the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in a band, (that doesn't have a name) along with her best friend Jason. Nikki dreams of being a famous musician and having her band's music being played everywhere, but she highly doubts that's ever gonna happen. But that all changes when troubled teenage rockstar Riley Evans and his band Quiet Noise decides to take a break from going on tour to go back to high school to find himself and why he fell in love with music and to have a battle of the bands in their home town to find their opening act for their new tour.
Once Riley and Quiet Noise show up at the school, everyone is utterly starstruck, later that day the high school has their annual masquerade ball.
Nikki sneaks out with some help from Jason and her other band mates to go to the ball.
Once at the ball Nikki is urged on to enter the karaoke contest at the ball by Jason and her other band mates and she reluctantly agrees to it. And with out knowing she's paired up with Riley Evans who Nikki happens to be a huge fan of and Quiet Noise.
Both Riley and Nikki can feel the chemistry while they were singing together, but after seeing the clock that read 12:00, which was the time that Blair would be coming home from a party, Nikki runs off accidentally dropping her ipod touch, which Riley finds.
After going through her ipod he finds Nikki's lyrics, which inspire him. The next day he goes on a search for the owner of the ipod and who he thinks might be the girl of his dreams.

Jason is the lead guitarist for the un named band with his best friend of 9 years Nikki. Jason is kinda a nerd sometimes especially with his crazy cd collection, but he always has something to say, especially when it comes to encouraging others.

Blair is the very demanding and botox obsessed step mother of Nikki, who she loves to torment a little too much than she should. It absolutely annoys her when Nikki has her music too loud.

Riley is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Quiet Noise and currently very lost, he has major writers block and can't seem to find enough inspiration to write any new music and he's starting to question why he went into music, possibly considering quitting the band, until he meets Nikki.

Aundrea is a total dumb blonde, and that's probably why she has Nikki do most of her homework. Sometimes she can't even figure out how to use a can opener.

Amber is almost the opposite of Aundrea, she's a straight A student but still very mean, she finds her sister Aundrea very embarassing, yet she still goes everywhere with her.
