Bob Marley

Yes, I am a huge fan of Bob Marley. I always liked his music. His music contains messages. A message of love and peace and his music still grabs fans around the world. Unfortunately Bob died way too early (mainly because he refused the necessary treatment because of his religion) but his music is still so cool. Are there many more fans of Bob Marley out there? Of course One love/ people get ready is awesome. But I also love Buffalo Soldier, Could you be loved etc. So this topic is dedicated to the king of Reggae.....BOB MARLEY! May his music live forever on.

One love/People get ready:
One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
Hear the children crying (One Love)
Hear the children crying (One Heart)
Sayin' give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Sayin' let's get together and feel all right

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love)
There is one question I'd really like to ask (One Heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me

One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love)
So shall it be in the end (One Heart)
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
One more thing

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armageddon (One Love)
So when the Man comes there will be no no doom (One Song)
Have pity on those whose chances grove thinner
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation

Sayin' One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
I'm pleading to mankind (One Love)
Oh Lord (One Heart)

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Let's get together and feel all right

I am a huge Bob Marley fan, too. I was a teenager when I caught reggae-mylitis, and have been infected ever since. At that time, Bob was alive, but he did not come to my town in concert, so I never saw him in the flesh. If you can get the live album called "Babylon by Bus," it is terrific, as is "Exodus" and "Uprising." Actually almost all Bob Marley albums I've ever owned have just been really good. Feel-good music.

One good thing about music:
when it hits, you feel no pain.

One good thing about music:
when it hits, you feel no pain.

So hit me with music,
hit me with music now.

Hit me with music,
brutalize me with music ...

Rastaman vibration, yeah -- positive!
Live if you wanna live.

I & I i-ration, yeah -- irie ites!

Exodus is awesome!!!! I never get tired of his music. Great lyrics Inky :D
Bob made reggae music loved in the whole world. When I play the album Legend, I start to sing with him. He brought peace to his country by making those two leaders shake hands. We need more people like him ;)
Jimi...well done! You made this yourself?

Totally agree. The music is just heart-warming. When my little niece was only about two or three, my brother (her dad) had an attack of adult asthma which nearly killed him, and he had to be knocked out in the hospital under a paralytic drug for about a week so a machine could breathe for him. He was, more or less, in a medically-induced coma, and no one knew if when they brought him out, he would be able to breathe on his own, it was bad.

My sister-in-law would get up in the morning to go visit him, and put on the Bob Marley CD, and over and over she and her baby would listen to the same song while they got ready for the day ...

Woke up this morning, smile at the rising sun.
Three little birds perched by my doorstep.
Singing a sweet song, in melodies pure and true.
This is their message to you:

Baby don't worry, about a thing.
Cuz every little thing's gonna be all right.
Don't worry, about a thing.
Cuz every little thing is gonna be all right ...

I still totally cry when I hear that song. Thank God, my brother survived! And he has not had a serious attack since. :)

That's a beautiful story!!! Thank God your brother is alright ever since!
I hear this song a lot. At my work, I often hear it on the radio. And then I know: Everything's gonna be alright indeed. Bob Marley his songs are a big support during tough times because it's just the way he was. He put so much love in his songs, you still hear it today decades after his death.

The sad truth is, I have lots of Bob Marley moments. Years ago during my bad time, a really bad time after my life was all busted up, one thing after another, it happened that two of my closest friends at the time really let me down at Easter time, and my relationship with God wasn't good at the time, so Easter had been sort of dry and brittle for me ... weeks went by and I was really depressed ...

Then one day, I was driving to work, and the weather was great, and I had a cool car and was driving with the windows down, and for some reason I just cranked up the volume -- I think it was that song, "Lively Up Yourself." I started singing along at the top of my lungs, and I realized, hey, I'm not depressed anymore!

It took me a while longer to crawl back up to a better relationship with God and others, but at that moment, I finally felt like I would make it. And Bob Marley was right there with me. :)

I loved the man and his music sooo much. I remember back in 1984 the song One love/people get ready was a huge hit over here again thanks to a movie or a commercial, I don't know anymore. And this song helped me through the divorce of my parents and my mom being very sick soon after it. But your story is amazing. It seems like Bob has inspirered you to go on with your life and his music has calmed you down!! I always remember when I got my first swimming lessons Stir it up was on the radio. It still happens when I have a song of him stuck in my head (it happens a lot) Bob is always playing on the radio soon after it. Not the same song but he is on.

Yeah, the music is inspiring, sort of uplifting. I like that.

Do you listen to any of the Marley kids? I have heard a couple of them, and they are also quite good ... but nothing really compares to Bob Marley. I visit the Caribbean frequently and have the opportunity to hear new Caribbean music from time to time. Lots is good, but Bob had a depth that others do not seem to have. Actually, Bunny Wailer, who played with Bob, also had a good sound and a deep spiritual side, and I liked Peter Tosh's music as well. It was an enchanting time for reggae.

Yes, I have heard his sons singing as well but they are in no way coming close to their father. I once saw a program about Bob Marley and jamaica and it was amazing to see how deep his impact was. The kids at school and everybody know Bob and his messages. Wasn't Bob his record label Tuff Gong? I do remember Peter Tosh!! Not only because he sang together with Mick Jagger but he was very well known (not as Bob but still) Isn't it sad to know both Peter and Bob died young?
Have you been to Jamaica Inky? The famous reggae colors green yellow and red.

Yes, I've been to Jamaica. Parts of it are stunningly beautiful. The saddest thing is that in the touristy areas, a woman or girl alone canot go out without being constantly hassled by local guys ... it's a shame, because the island is so very lovely. Of course some parts of it are dangerous -- it's a sad country in a lot of ways, but gorgeous too.

And you are right, Bob Marley was a national hero. There's a Bob Marley Museum in the house where he grew up, which is cool, but it's in a bad neighborhood, so not generally visited by international tourists. But visited a lot by locals who still love Bob.

Was the DVD you saw when he had Michael Manley and Edward Seaga (spelling?!) on stage holding hands? That was like a magic moment, one of those moments that made you believe anything was possible ...

You mean the famous moment when he was bringing those two together? Yes! That's what I mean. Bob was tired of arguying about politics and being enemies. He decided to make them hold hands so it would be better for the country and to show the world it is possible to make piece. I guess he was inspirered by God ;)
It's sad countries like Jamaica are going down because of these people who make it impossible for others to enjoy the country. There is so much beauty and so much to see but these things are so unsafe. I guess you didn't go out alone ;) They should treasure what they have because a lot of people would visit Jamaica only because of Bob Marley.

It's a tough thing because of the poverty. The Cayman islands are very near Jamaica, but quite prosperous -- in part, I think, because they chose to remain a British colony and have had a stable government. Jamaican independence may have been spiritually and emotionally satisfying for the local people, but its self-governance has been prone to corruption and mismagement.

Thus the natural resources have not been wisely used and poverty results. It's hard to get people to do right if they are hungry ... I think Bob addressed that in one of his songs (or more than one) ...

Them belly full but me hungry.
A hungry mob is an angry mob ...

it's very sad. The tourist areas are generally safe and beautiful, but the real Jamaica is difficult for outsiders to experience just because they cannot feel safe in doing so.
