Book covers

As a book lover, I care not just about their contents and stories, but also for lots of related details, one being book covers! So I thought it would be fun to share our favorite or owned Narnia book covers. :)

My books are about ten year old, and this is a picture of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. All the other books have the same border, which I particularly love. I used to look for its images and try to remember which story each one was related to. ;)

The most recent edition has the 50th anniversary cover; I think it's nice, but I prefer my old ones. I think the border and the gold-written 'Narnia' matches the idea of a collection of chronicles.

It's unfortunate that people only look for good covers when searching for books (at the library for instants). I do that too. At least it's a good indication for an author to ask for a good book cover :D

Oh yes :p

I love book covers as well. I have the paperback box set released after the movie. Each cover has an embossed front where a part of the picture is lifted slightly from the cover, kind of like in 3-D.

I have an old boxed set of paperbacks. I think it might be an original set, because the publication dates in the front are from the 1950's, and I've never seen any Narnia books like mine. I found them at a yardsale a few years ago (I think I paid $1 or $2 for the whole set, LOL). I might scan the covers tomorrow and post them.

supermeulen, I don't look just for nice covers when searching for books, but I certainly love to find them. ;)

NotATameLion, I'd love to see some pictures of your covers if you could share them. Old books have a nice 'thing' about them that make them special. :D

And Elendil, you seem to really love your books (or not!). :p (just a silly joke)

I like most of the covers I've seen on the Narnia series... although there was one set I didn't. I don't have any pics, but you didn't want to see them anyway. ;)

There's a new set of covers that just came out this year. In comparisons to the ones from the past they're pretty sad in my opinion. I like the Pauline Baynes ones the best. I'm always partial to her work with the Chronicles of Narnia since it's what I grew up on and since CS Lewis had her do the original illustrations.

Yes i always love the Pauline Baynes versions much better, they are so beautiful. I think i know which ones you are meaning IntoTheWardrobe.
Is the LWW version like aslans face and the girls hugging him?

For the new covers I don't like, I don't think so. The new covers that I don't like are really new. I know the Last Battle one has Jewel with blood on his horn. None of the covers in that set were very well done compared to past ones. The Pauline Baynes covers do have Susan and Lucy dancing around with Aslan. There are a few older sets that are wonderful as well. I guess that's why the new ones leave me cold. They're done in this sort of clean, polished, sterile, and very boring manner. They're nice but they remind me of the sort of cookie cutter house neighborhoods with home owners associations where they're nice and all but yet they lack any personality and fun. So I'll prefer the older covers with more fantastic pictures on them. They fit the stories better.

What language is what? We were talking about book covers rather than languages. I'm not sure what you're referring to DestinyLies.

My covers

While I was visiting me mum a few weeks ago, I stayed in my old room and photographed the covers of my old CON. Sorry if the pix are big; I am not sure how to shrink! The set of six are numbered 2-6 from back when the books were released in publication order, but LWW is missing from that set because I had taken it on a missions trip somewhere and ended up giving it to a girl I met; I did not realize in the years since I had bought the set, the numbering system had changed! So my LWW is from a different series, and is #2 ... I have a whole newer set where I live now, numbered in chronological order, but I do not prefer that.

All the Covers and Languages

I also am not sure what DestinyLies is referring to. But I remembered the website of Glen GoodKnight who seems to have collected all the Covers of the Chronicles in existence; in all the Languages. See http://www.inklingsfocus.com/index.html
Also there is another interesting thread about the Book Covers & Their Illustrators on the Narniaweb. Check http://www.narniaweb.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15427&SCRN=0&PN=2&get=last#1042449

The books we have are of the basic same look as the one HugsForReepicheep posted.

The Swedish Voyage of the Dawn Treader has a slightly different picture though (than HugsForReepicheep's) but the border is the same:

I really like the covers of this edition though:

Covers do matter to me. Granted the story itself is more important but if there are different version available I will always go for the one that is most aesthetically pleasing to me. The same with DVD covers and stuff.

My original books were like the two you posted above... but I had a picture from the BBC versions for VotDT.

However, I recently got a brand new set and they have different pictures:
