I don't have time to write an essay worthy of the conference; but maybe this note will prime the pump.

There is a thematic difference between the BOOK of Lion/Witch/Wardrobe and the 2005 movie. Almost nobody EVER NOTICES this, but I noticed. It has to do with the plot function of Professor Kirke. He is SUPPOSED TO be the very embodiment of logic; but I apparently am THE ONLY viewer who noticed how screenwriters intentionally ruined the character.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////

IN THE BOOK, when Lucy comes back from her solo visit to the Narnian world, and her siblings don't believe her, the Professor logically examines their doubts. He tells the siblings that the disconnect between time in the Narnian reality and time on Earth was not something Lucy would have known to expect. This being so, if Lucy had been making up her encounter with Tumnus, she should have stayed out of sight long enough to simulate a long disappearance. Accordingly, Lucy's account LOGICALLY deserves to be taken seriously.

But NO-O-O-O! The cinematic Professor Kirke throws all of that right out the window, and thus throws out Mister Lewis' effort to integrate fantasy with reasoning. The degraded Professor now settles for saying: "She's your sister; start acting like it!"

There cannot be any excuse for this dumbing down.
