Okay, Adamson was great and everything in special effects, editing, etc. but failed to capture the intended essence of the book. So... why not get a new guy every movie to direct? Like the HP movies.

Well, thats your opinion on his "capturing" of Narnia......I think that he did the best job any director could. I have read many books on the Making of Narnia (currently I am reading Cameras in Narnia by Ian Brodice) and I think he's the one for the job; a very talented, hard-working director.

I too have to say Andrew - I think he aculty stayed very true to the book and tried as hard as he could and made the movie amazing!
I don't think another director could do the same, and if Andrew does do PC, which I'm sure he has signed up to do... it shall improve his directing more and more, making the films better.

First, I thought Adamson did brilliantly in capturing the essence of the book. Much better than most people. And everyone I know who has seen the movie and actually read the books thought the same thing. Secondly, the HP movies keep getting farther from the books. this last one made me want to throw things at the screen and torture the director. It drifted so far from the book and changing directors isn't helping. Every time they change Hogwarts changes. I'm tired of seeing a shape-shifting castle and a store appear in one place this movie and another place the next. I hope Adamson stays the director through all seven. The joy for us is that Narnia is always there and always the same. I want that to come through in the movies too.

oh, and adamson has already signed on to direct PC, so there's not much point in debating it other than opinion.

adamson, their couldn't be anyone else to the job right. (not that he did the best he could've)
and maby he did drift from the book a bit but it was still amaizing, and i just can't see anyone else doing it.

I completely agree with that. He did such a fantastic job in my opinion!

I'm hoping Adamson will learn from some of his mistakes and make Caspian a better film. I love TL, TW & TW but it did have some problems.

I'd love to see Spielberg direct one, he can do no wrong!

I think I'm just biased because I love his Indiana Jones films ;)

i love steven spielberg but i think adventures like Indiana Jones are more his style than Narnia. I too love Indian Jones films though. The new one comes out next year!

I love three of the ones listed, Chris Colombus, Steven Spielberg, and Andrew Adamson. I think all three of these men could handle Narnia, they have all had experience with fantasy, they have all used special effects and they all know the business. What separates them is the handling they use in directing the movie.

All of them could have directed Narnia, but I am partial to Andrew's direction for Narnia because he captures the idea and essence of the stories in a way that is not overtly 'in your face'. That is, although there are religious symbols and allegories in the books, he doesn't go over the top with trying to push them. Yes, he could have been closer to the book, yes, there were things in the film that I don't think fit with CS Lewis' original vision, but that was my perception about it and can't be proven with research or quotations. It was a brilliant piece of filmmaking. Objectively, I don't think anyone else could have captured Narnia the way he did, so my vote is in the Adamson camp.

Incidentally, Spielberg didn't just direct the Indiana Jones films, but he also directed ET, one of my absolute favorite films, and that was a fantasy. So, I truly think that if he had gotten to do the film, he could have done it, and done it well, but it would have been different.

For real? Harrison Ford is like 70

I still think Speilberg could pull it off, and he knows how to work with kids
