While I personally would not have locked it, I respect the decision of ITW to lock it for the reasons she has stated, and because her reasoning is consistent with certain general principles that have been adopted to prevent hard feelings among groups of members.
Please ask moderators directly. "Open Letters" to the mods in the form of new threads are locked almost immediately. We are always willing--and glad--to explain to any member why any decision was made and whether or not there is an appeals process available.
