ok i've started to do a window sill herb garden for spring & was wondering if anyone was planting anything this year what kind of plants are you decideing to grow and what is your favorite type of herb or flower to plant?? this year my mom helped me plant certain types of basil in fact one of them can be used for pesto sauce, we also planted spearmint i love the mint family of herbs :) we also planted chives and cirantro

If the window sill is in direct sunlight, you might consider planting wave petunias. I wish I had a window sill garden in direct sun, mine are all in the shade!

that might be a good idea :)

that might be a good idea i might consider that :) has anyone else thought about any herbs in their garden used for cooking?? or flowers for frangrance?? for the past few weeks i've seen basil & citntrio and marojram shoots come up :)

I love this topic, shortangel!
Although I don't have an herb garden at our house that we moved to last year, I used to grow rosemary for sausage and poultry seasoning, scented geranium for fresh tea (rose geranium and lemon geranium are my favorites), as well as thyme, lemon verbena, chamomile, mint (chocolate mint is the best), oregano, etc.

I really miss my ollalieberry bushes that I had at my home when my family lived in Central California. Fresh picked berries to sprinkle on cereal in May was such a delight! And a friend from church there had grafted on to a lemon bush in my back yard so that it bore mandarin tangerines as well as lemons. >sigh<

I do have lavender and roses at this house though and they are lovely (and orchids and other houseplants inside our home).

ohhh cool benisse chocolate mint is my favorite too

ohhh cool benisse you grew chocolate mint that's my favorite too, i might consider growing lemon verbena & lavendar, that's cool that you used to use basil for sussage, does anyone else like to plant seeds in flower pots or buy them from the store?? what kind of soil is your favorite?? for me this year i got a package of turf king soil :) does anyone think plant food is the best thing for plants or not??

I wish I had a place to plant herbs. I'd love to plant Thyme to cut fresh and use in a squash and leek soup I used to make a long time ago.

I like herbs with strong flavors like Basil, Oregano, Thyme... and others like it. By the way, my son is going to start gardening. Imagine that. I am complaining that I have no place when in fact we do have a patch or earth about 3 feet by 6 by my patio. My son decided he's going to plant flowers and veggies there. :)

some good plant food

well i was out & about yesturday i saw some good plant food it was Miracle -Gro plant food, anyone had sucesss useing this plant food in the garden???

Herbs? We've stuck some Rosemary clippings in the ground, Oregano in the brick planter, and have lots of mint growing naturally. What we've planted endures through winters. We've planted Cilantro, Basil, and Epazote for this year. I've also identified Plantago in my yard and a few other herbs whose names I've forgotten at the moment.

I planted Borage one year for the edible flowers. It took three years to finally rid my garden of the resulting onslaught. Prolific plant, she is.

I never use chemical stuff on my plants. Compost and aged chicken poop for me, thank you very much.

Brian
