ok since this seems to be the general forum i'm starting a post on gardening but mods please move this if this is not the general forum, what is everyone planting this year??? me i'm going to plant some sweet basil in a flowerpot & i'm also buying some herbs, chocolate mint, some more rosemary because it's good in salads, i'm also considering roman chaomille, does anybody grow herbs???

I might just plant a virtual garden (somehow :) ) since I'm not that good at real gardening since I forget to :D

does anybody grow herbs???

Yes- basil and parsley which we then dry and use for making home made pasta sauce. It's so much better than anything out of a can or a bottle. I used to grow potatoes but I live so close to Idaho where in September or October you can go buy a 50 lb bag of Idaho russets for about $7 or $8, it's discouraging to go to all the work to grow my own.

In fact, would it be bad manners to say I have ruined for myself going out to eat Italian food since I like my own more? That probably sounds really pompous doesn't it?

One is not pompous, but fortunate, if he or she can enjoy his or her own cooking that much.

The last food item I succeeded in growing was potatoes--very small ones, but still edible. I made them part of a homemade soup.

i want to grow some veggies maybe

i might think about growing some radishes, i like parsley yumm yumm, my favorite herb is peppermint but i already have some of that, i'm thinking maybe some more dill in case mom wants to make tatar sauce, i also might try some chives

i had a fall garden with lettuce and spinach and broccoli that did very well, and i hope to have those again in the spring plus tomatoes. i like to have fresh salads. yum! i would like to try an herb garden too; i have a nice corrugated tin tub with good soil in it, so maybe i will. what would be good for texas spring time herbs?

i have a book called the herb book that tells about that

i have a book called the herb book that tells about what kind of herbs are good in a hot climate, i'm hoping to shop for herbs this month and to get a flowerpot & put soil in it & grow the sweet basil

Nice. I will have to look for something like that book; I bet I can find online which herbs are good and can all grow together in a smallish space.

I think my husband plans some radishes, too, in addition to my salad stuff. He will do tomatoes as well. He plans to plant based on the Farmers Almanac or something; has anyone tried this?

Chocolate mint is amazing -- and I like basil and rosemary too. I like putting rosemary in with poultry or ground meat to give kind of a sausage flavoring. I love growing things I can cook with or infuse as tea (rosemary tea is good for colds, but I also like scented geranium tea from lemon or and rose geranium leaflets). Unfortunately I don't have time for gardening right now, so have to content myself with going to Penzey's Spices.
