Geography

I'm just wondering if you were to draw a map of the lands surrounding Narnia what would they be? I have seen maps of Narnia (on the covers of books and such) however these have Calormen and Archenland as the ones near Narnia. However in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the Silver Chair it seems that Narnia should border the land of the Giants, but in the Horse and his Boy it should border Archenland (well that's how I read it). I know Narnia could border both but it seems to be such a 'sea -oriented' country -especially in the time of Caspian that most of it seems to be bordering the sea (that is the impression one gets), also Cair Paravel was on a Peninsula (therefore almost completely surrounded by sea - up until the channel was made and then it was surrounded by sea). Am I just missing something that's maybe obvious? Anyway any comments or thoughts are welcome :)

Note to mods - sorry if a topic like this is already posted somewhere

Hello LotGK, lovely to see you here!
As far as I can remember the land of the giants was up past Lantern Waste, which was on the opposite side of Narnia to Archenland, there is a map, possibly drawn by Pauline Baynes, who drew the original pictures, if I can find it I will post it, or maybe try to etch my own hideous interpretation.
From memory all the parts of Narnia mentioned in the stories are there, but then the map fades out on one side, with the sea and the Lone Islands etc on the other side.

Archenland is to the south, and Ettinsmoor, where the giants hang out, is to the north. It's hard to speak of a "land" of the giants, in the sense of a governed area, since they don't seem to have a government, but where they live is north of Narnia, beyond the River Shribble. Silver Chair deals with this the most. Far north, of course, is the House of Harfang, though there's no indication that the king of Harfang rules much beside his immediate house.

I am so good to you people, and I'm still not nominated for Most Addicted to Narnia.

Well, I have the map as drawn by Pauline Baynes (I even used to have a laminated one for my wall. And then the movers stole it. And I'm still traumatised *sob*).

Here's a linkie: Map The scan's not that great quality, but I think you'll get the idea.

Hmmm...I'll scan mine and see if I can get it any bigger.

Okay, lemme see if I can attach this....nope, the file is too huge. But any smaller and you can't really see the writing...I'll PM everyone who's interested, how does that sound? ;)
