Godzilla

Hello, I wondered, is there any chance that fellow Godzilla fans my lurk in this forum?:o I am huge fan of the Japanese movies about the monster, especially the Millenium series and, naturally, the 1954 original, atmospheric movie. I dislike the version of Roland Emmerich as I consider it disrespectful to "Godzilla" (actually "Cloverfield" is better movie, despite being about different monster).
But, back to G-Man? Do you like him? What is you fave daikaiju (giant monster) from the Godzilla movies? What's your favorite Godzilla movie?:)

I've only seen one Godzilla movie that was made back like in the 60's or 70's called "King Kong Vs. Godzilla". It featured Japanese actors that spoke English but the setting was Japan. In it, Godzilla had remerged and some Japanese went to the island where Kong lived to bring him back so he could fight Godzilla. G was a dud as he was a puppet, and King Kong was actually the best part of the film. It was a cheap movie because the tanks that fought Godzilla and other vehicles that were in the film looked like toys. That is the only Godzilla movie I've seen. Overall, I think Godzilla is now out of date in today's society because you never hear about them and they only make King Kong movies now.

This is very old movie, I haven't watched, because I don't like Kong.:) But the effects of the Japanese G-movies even today are outdated. Yet to me they have some charm:p

I loved Godzilla growing up. My favorite is the bad Godzilla that terrorized Tokyo but even the corny Godzilla who teamed up with Rodan, Mothra etc. and played dodgeball with huge boulders and had a son that had actual eyebrows still has it's place.

The U.S. Godzilla remake in the late 90's starring Matthew Broderick was awful IMO. It had no right carrying the Godzilla moniker. Godzilla isn't supposed to look like a huge dinosaur it's supposed to look like a guy wearing a rubber suit.

I agree with you, downpatrol. It cared nothing from the Godzilla spirit. Do you know that "Toho", the creators of "Godzilla" were mad at TriStar and in their latest movie, "Godzilla: Final Wars", the remake Godzilla is presented as a different monster, Zilla, and it is defeated by the true Godzilla!
My personal favorite Godzilla movie, besides the original from 1954, is "Godzilla 2000", "Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" and "Final Wars". My favorite monster, besides Godzila, is the mighty and terrible King Ghidorah:D

He HAD to wear a rubber suit. After all, when breaking all those high voltage power lines, he needed the insulation! :D

I'm probably dating myself here but does anyone remember this toy?

I got it on like my 5th birthday. Besides the tongue of flame, his right hand was spring loaded and would fire off becoming a semi-dangerous missile. I don't recall that in any of the movies. lol

Did you know he was actually Goshira but the name was not thought ominous enough for American audiences?

Is that how he's pronounced in native japanese? That does make total sense. So Godzilla is just a convenient and more threatening mispronunciation of the name for U.S. audiences. That is interesting.

Ooh... I didn't expect to find some fans of Godzilla here...

Destroy All Monsters, that was one of my favourites movies.

And, just how many villain monsters can you remember?

Mothra
Battra
King Ghidorah
Gigan
Rodan
Hedorah (Ha, like the detractors of Greenpeace)
Space Godzilla

And, let's not forget the mechanic versions Godzilla and King Ghidorah. There's also a plant-like monster I can't recall its name...

I always thought the japanese called him Godzirra which was just the japanese not pronouncing "L's" correctly. It turns out it's the other way around.

When I lived in Japan there was a modern remake of Godzilla the japanese made circa 1985. I don't know if that ever made it to the states. That I'm insterested in seeing.

Oh yes, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla. (Say that 3 times really fast) I actually have that on VHS tape. Now if I can just find my VCR.

Honestly it's been so long but did Rodan start off as a villain? Because I always remember him as one of Godzilla's bud's.

I just did a search on some of the movies you mentioned.

Godzilla 2000

The plant was called Biolante. It was a mutated rose, mixed with genes of Godzilla and the spirit of a dead Japanese girl. However, Desutoryah is the most hideous villain of the series. It is stronger even than Godzilla himself!

With me, Godzilla is always associated with Jim Nabors as Gomer Pyle saying he went to see "one of them Godziller movies"... I guess we all know a Gomer.
