I didn't see a thread for this, or couldn't find one, anyway (it's been two years since I logged in, even longer since I was a regular member, and I've somewhat forgotten my way around the forum, ahaha--also, I honest to goodness did not know where to put it, but I'm sure mods will move it if necessary or lock it if non-Narnia discussion is no longer allowed) but as a big fan of One Direction, particularly Harry Styles (who I, being one with a somewhat unpopular opinion, consider to be not only the frontman, but the most talented member of the group), I am over the moon to see Harry starring in his first real film.

"Dunkirk" is still filming and is set to be released next summer. It is based during World War II and covers the "miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 27- June 04, 1940, during Battle of France in World War II." (I took that bit straight from IMDB, lol)
It also stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh and is being directed by Christopher Nolan.

I've heard two different things--that Harry has a lead role, and that he has a supporting role. Either way, I do plan on going to see it simply to support Harry--I'm not exactly a history buff, or World War II isn't really my area of interest, anyway (I'm more interested in the Vietnam war era), and I'm not good with war movies...We watched about twenty minutes of "Saving Private Ryan" in my high school U.S. History class when I was seventeen, and I was queasy and deeply upset for the rest of the day...buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I'm a devoted Harry girl, and I will sit through this film at LEAST once, to support him.

I believe that he actually had to audition for the role, which I was impressed with. As much as I adore and admire the guy, and although I happen to know that he has a natural gift for acting (and let's face it, the camera LOVES him), I had assumed that he was cast simply because he is already very popular and his name would draw a large audience (although, admittedly, the audience drawn by Harry's name will be mostly young women who just want to ogle him). I'm quite pleased to hear otherwise, that they cast him because he really was right for the role.

The more photos I see from the set, the more excited I get. It looks fairly accurate (although, again, disclaimer, I'm no history buff, so what do I really know, lol) and well-done, that they're putting a lot of work into it. I'm really looking forward to seeing it...even though doing the film DID result in Harry having to cut off his pretty hair.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway...I thought I'd start this thread for other Harry fans, or fans of any of the other starring cast members, or those just genuinely interested in the film for its subject matter, to discuss new developments, share new set photos, and, eventually, discuss the film itself.

I can't be the only one here crazy about this guy, and incredibly excited about his new acting career, and the solo recording contract he recently signed with Columbia Records.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I think he was the best part of One Direction, the one with the most potential and talent, the most star power, the best voice, and the best personality (I love the way he just sort of laughs off all the rumors. He doesn't let it get to him, not anymore. I wish I could be more like him that way.), is the sweetest with his fans, not to mention, he's the most attractive, not that that's really very important, it's just a bonus, lol.

I feel ridiculously protective of him due to all the rumors and stuff the tabloids spread around, but he's always good at just shrugging it off and/or laughing about it, so I'm trying to follow his example and do the same.

Hello there! As you can see, I've merged your two threads. I figured us Harry Styles fans could appreciate reading about the movie here on the Harry Styles thread.

I'll admit to having a soft spot for Harry. Of late I would say Liam is my favorite from 1D, he has such a gorgeous and well-trained voice. But Harry was my first favorite.

I've always assumed the best of him, he does come off as a really sweet guy even in interviews where they're trying to make it seem like he's a bad boy or whatever.

Hadn't actually officially heard about his solo career yet, or the movie. Those are both exciting, I'll have to look into them some more.

Thanks for merging the threads--it briefly occurred to me when I was making them that they might be better off as the same thread, but forgot all about them, honestly, lol!!

Yeah, Liam honestly does have one of the better trained musicians in the group, and he's the only one who can always do flawless harmonies with the others (poor Louis ain't got a prayer with harmonies half the time, lol).
One of the things that really impressed me was that, when he auditioned for the X Factor, while all of the others used pop songs, Liam auditioned with the old classic "Cry Me a River" by Arthur Hamilton.
Liam's currently doing some collaborations with other artists, I think, but I'm not sure...he hasn't done much with the hiatus. I think he's the only one who's actually using it as a break the way it was intended, lol!!

Harry's kinda always been my favorite. I mean, for the longest time, he was the only one whose name I even knew, lol. (Fun fact: I listened to 1D for over a year before bothering to learn their names. I always thought that was a bit weird.) I used to get Liam and Niall mixed up. In hindsight, I have no idea how that happened, lol, but I was never sure which was which.

Harry got a bad reputation right off the bat for being a "bad boy" basically because he was a dumb teenager when he started out, lol, or that's how I explain some of his behavior back then, anyway...but he's matured a LOT, especially between 2013 and now, and I think he's finally starting to shed the "bad boy/womanizer" image that he got stuck with early on and getting more of the good press and respect which he deserves.
He's got a really good heart, honestly, always so kind with everybody, especially his fans. The media just likes to make him look bad. But then, the media likes to make pretty much everybody look bad, highlight anything even remotely negative (mostly just ridiculous rumors, honestly) and barely mention all the great things. -sigh- Well, that's show biz, I guess, lol.

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway...New teaser trailer is out for "Dunkirk." Harry's not in it (neither are any of the other main cast, lol, I guess that's why they call it a TEASER trailer), but it looks very exciting!!

There were also briefly talks of getting Harry to play Fiyero in the upcoming film adaptation of "Wicked." He's supposedly their first choice (with Lea Michele as Elphaba), but this was over a year ago that they first mentioned it ("Wicked" is supposed to come out in 2018, I think??) so I don't know anything else about it, or if they even ever approached Harry about it. I don't think they've officially cast anybody yet.

I've also never had the chance to see "Wicked" at all, just throwing that disclaimer out there (the main reason I'm excited that it's being adapted into a film: oftentimes, that's the only way I get to SEE a musical, is if it's either made into a movie or filmed live and put on DVD), lol, so I have no idea if Harry would be the right choice or not...but I'd love to see him in some sort of musical sometime.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway....sorry for rambling, lol, it's just nice to see a little activity on this thread.

I live for harmonies, so that's probably why I noticed Liam. (Yeeeeah poor Louis. XD) He has been doing some stuff during the break, I've kept track, and he has some solo stuff coming up, I believe.

I'm glad to hear he's getting past that reputation. I never thought he deserved it. Dumb teenagers are dumb teenagers, and if you make fun of them for being dumb that's hardly going to help them improve. I'm glad Harry took it all pretty well.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I have my own personal favorite choice for Fiyero, but sadly he's not very well known because he IS a Broadway actor. I do think Harry could do alright at it if we had to go for a more popular celebrity.
