Has anyone ever thought about this? VOTDT

I was reading one of my critical thinking books about Narnia. Has anyone ever thought about this: the picture of the boat, the Dawn Treader, in Eustace's house. Do you remember that his mother said she didn't like the picture but 'hadn't gotten rid of it because it was a wedding present given to them by someone she didn't want to offend.'

Have you guys ever thought about WHO this person was she didn't want to offend? Who would have a picture of a Narnian ship and give it to Aunt Alberta, Eustace's mother? Could it have been the Professor, or someone else who made a journey into Narnia?

I'd highly recomend this book INSIDE NARNIA by Devin Brown, because it REALLY opens your eyes to a lot of things you might never have thought about when reading the Chroncicles.

I enver though of that iceMaiden...i wonder who did give her the gift....maybe, the ship turned into the dwan treader, when the kids started looking at it..

Interesting. Yes, I did start thinking about where the boat painting came from. My most likely guess is that it came from no one we know. The professor did not use it to get into Narnia, therefore I don't think we can assume them. But, then again Eustace's mother did not want to offend the person. I still don't think it was the professor. Wow i need to think about this!

I specifically tried not to think about it. I prefer thinking it was someone we don't know. I like the idea that Narnia has affected a lot of people, and they're somehow all interlinked.

That's one of the themes in the book I'm reading...that CS Lewis left quite a bit up to our imagination, but that it only enhances our liking of the books and doesn't detract away from the story. A good writer I think always leaves something up to the reader to imagine, such as the background material for example on the Stone Table, and what happens in Narnia between Aslan's creation of it and the White Witch's take over, as well as the Golden Years of Narnia during the Pevensie's 15 year rule.

I'll go with the idea that it was just one of these "chinks or chasms" of which Aslan talks, and neither the painter nor the buyer had the least idea there was anything odd about the painting. And remember, the Wardrobe didn't work all the time - only on three occasions that we know of. So it's unlikely the painting did either.

That could be, but to me, like the wardrobe which was the doorway to Narnia, there had to be some kind of connection with the painting and Narnia. * like the wardrobe was made from the wood of the apple from the magic tree*.

Then again, the train station was a way to Narnia too.
