How Did The Witch Know About The Deep Magic?

She came from a different kingdom called Charn. She basically snuck her way onto Narnia by using the two kids and their rings. She isn't from Narnia. How can she know about the deep magic?

i think she knew the deep magic by being present when Narnia was first created, when Aslan sang it to life. that was the beginning of Narnia, as you know. the thing is, it was mentioned in LWW about deep magic from the dawn of time which is obviously reffering to the time when Narnia was created and brought to life, and deeper magic from before the dawn of timewhich is reffered to by Aslan as deep magic to the time before Narnia was created, and that is why Aslan came to life from the stone table.

because she was present at that time, Jadis had acquired the rights to the deep magic, which states that she has the right to own any traitor and kill him/her or else Narnia will be overturned and perish in fire and water.

The deep magic was written on the side of the Great Stone Table. It was also written in the Firestones on the Hill.

If you will remember, there was a spell in Charn whereby Digory and Polly were made able to read the alien inscription next to the bell whereby Jadis was awakened. It started out in some form of Charn language and reformed before their eyes and even rewrote itself to rhyme in English.

No doubt she possessed the power to restructure her own language skills with a simple spell.

Well, the magic DEEPER STILL indicates a separate underlying set of rules upon which the rules of ordinary morality run their course.

To translate it into English, think of the deep magic as the TEN COMMANDMENTS and think of the magic deeper still as the MEANING OF LIFE.

Also not to forget that Aslan Himself said that she would "grow in dark magic" during the time when the Tree of Protection stood. No doubt learning some things about the magical foundations of Narnia were part of that.

Thanks everyone. :) I remembered that Jadis was there when Narnia was created but it didn't dawn on me that she would know the deep magic at that time. :)

Well, she probably didn't - being dropped into Narnia was just as much a surprise to her as to everyone else. But she undoubtedly took advantage of being in that world from the outset to learn things (however witches learn).

I just thought she was like Satan; she knew a lot of things but she didn't know that Aslan would come back to life. She, like Satan, thought she had the battle won but in reality didn't. :D

Like so many others have said, she knew about the deep magic because she could understand what Aslan was singing when Narnia was created. It says so in the Magician's Nephew. She did not know about the deeper magic because she had no power to go back in time and see back to before the Lion started singing.

Another thing to consider is that in the garden she ate one of the apples from the tree of life. Perhaps in addition to giving her unending life it also gave her some knowledge of the fundemental laws governing the Narnian world but only from the point she arrived.
She wants knowledge and power like a goddess, and as Aslan says in TMN when he`s talking about the apples "All get what they want; they do not always like it."
