In the theater first run movie reviews

This is the movie forum, but I don't see anyone taking about movies in general that are in the theaters now. Well I hear Inglourious Basterds is the top movie in the box office now so I will use that as an opener. People at church were talking about it today. But since it is rated R, I can't see myself seeing it. As a Christian I don't watch watch R rated movies. However I am not dogmatic about that, after all I did watch The Passion which was R rated and Schindler's List is a must see. I did hear that the crutch of the movie is that terrorist can't be all bad, since these American Jews can be seen as terrorist. I think that this is a stetch since they were killing Nazi and not random civilians.

Anyhow now we have a thread to talk about just movies that are in the theaters now and if we should take our date to see them or not. :D

I too will not watch R rated movies (except for the occasional Passion and such), just as a personal preference. Morality is a good thing to hold onto. I did go to the theater to see The Time Traveler's Wife on Sunday. It was fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend it to all. It is rated PG-13 for a reason, but aside from those things it had a beautiful story.

It bothers me greatly when supposed Christians and church-goers see nothing wrong with R rated films (save for The Passion). I will probably never see any R rated film because of personal beliefs...and frankly I don't think Brad Pitts' newest film should be discussed in this forum, partly because of the title.

The only film I've seen so far in theaters this year was Star Trek XI. It was worth my money, but I probably won't be buying it on dvd unless I get a guardian angel thing or something.

Ok which movie are you going to take your date to, Zombieland or Capitalism: A Love Story. I think I will stick with the double feature of Toy Story I and II in 3-D.

This thread could be joined to the Movies that you're planning on seeing thread.

First of all: WELCOME BACK LAMP POST FORUM SECTION YAY :D:D

Sorry:p

On topic:
I saw the trailer for Inglourious Bastards when i was seeing Public Enemies in the cinema. I didn't like the trailer at all, i thought the whole story was completely about shooting and killing, and watching people die. But i've heard from some of my friends, that it does have a good story about it, so i'm reconsidering. I will probably watch it some day, but not in theaters i think.

A movie i do plan on seeing is the movie 'my sister's keeper'. I just love the way the story goes. I think it will be interesting to see how movie makers have taken the subject of sickness in the family, sister's love and a child born to be her sister's saviour, and what they did with it. I'm really curious about that. I think it will be very sad though.

Last film i watched in theaters was 'Public Enemies', it's been a while though. SPOILERS!!!
That was a huge dissapointment. When watching the trailer i had the idea that the movie was about:
1. A modern-time Robin Hood, taking from the Rich, giving to the Poor.
2. A genius when it comes to bank robberies, and that we were going to see all sorts of fantastic smart tricks.
Well, we got neither. There was not even a hint of the Robin Hood part, and there wasn't any 'smart thinking' in it either. Just a loooot of shooting and killing. Johnny Depp was of course brilliant, and the best thing about this movie. Christian Bale however, was not that outstanding, and in fact played a very 'flat character'. Most of the characters were flat characters however. The story could have been good, but it was very poorly executed. And there were just too many characters in it, you wouldn't recognise them at all. Me and my friend didn't even know what the name of the main FBI agent was, and he was the second most important character of the movie. It could have been great, it wasn't at all.

My opinion, of course:D

I don't think it could have been great if you wanted the actual story of Dillinger and Robin Hood together. Dillinger was just a bandit; he had no ideas of giving to the poor. He just became a "folk hero," if he was indeed one, because everyone was horribly poor and a lot of people were blaming the government and banks, and it seemed romantic or fantastical to get away with robbing them and breaking the law. At least, the movie might have been great if it had told the true story with real ethos ... but not if it tried to make Dillinger into Robin Hood.

Just watched Monsters vs. Aliens last night. While hilarious, having a ton of great references/homages and a fantastic voice cast (had no idea it was Kiefer til the credits rolled...), it was all over the place in terms of story, the characters were pretty shallow, and it just overall was not as good was Kung Fu Panda.

Still, a good outing from Dreamworks.

No, i didn't mean that.

I didn't even know who John Dillinger was before i went to the movies, and from the trailer i thought he was a good bandit, like Robin Hood is a good bandit. When i watched the actual movie, i realized that he was NOT in fact a nice guy, considering the fact that he kept shooting people. So i didn't mean that they should have put it like he was the real hero. I was just hoping for a real hero film, and it wasn't that at all.

Oh, yah, I see what you mean. And I would agree, although I did not see the film. Anything with Jonny Depp has the potential to be a good film, as far as I am concerned!

Agreed, he was the best thing about the movie, and his acting was awesome as ever!

So, did anyone see My Sister's Keeper in theaters yet? Or any new movies coming out soon?

Sorry, I never got into the whole Twilight thing, but I know there are lots of kids here who did. Anyone seen it?

What I find interesting about Twilight is, a year ago at this time, 90% of the females on this forum were obsessed with Twilight. It was in their signatures, they made dozens of RPGs on it, there were tons of Team Edward and Team Jacob topics, and 60% of the signatures were Twilight related. All the friend groups did was talk about Twilight. This was really a Twilight forum with the occassional mention of Narnia.

Now, there is like no Twilight talk all. I find this very interesting. Maybe its because of the changes to the Dawn Treader, the Lantern Waste, and the loss of several members.

2012 has also been out for over a week. Anyone want to review that movie.:)

I hear that the some are upset that Mecca wasn't hit but the Vatican was.

Hmm.. Maybe we hang out in different sections of the forum cuz i still here quite a bit about Twilight. Not as much as before obviously. But still quite a bit.

the leadership team made a conscious effort to streamline the forum so it was basically about narnia with only one thread each for other fantasy worlds since this is narnia fans forum. twilight fans are still welcome, but there are plenty of other twilight forums where they can obsess. :)

timmy, i didn't see 2012 either, and probably won't ... anybody?

I'm not complaining about the changes at all. I came on to get info on Narnia. But a year ago this WAS a forum for Twilight fanatics and random RPGs.

I heard 2012 wasn't that good because all that happens are narrow escapes and at the end even though it is the end of the world pretty much everyone survives. I haven't seen it, but those are the complaints that I am hearing.
