Is TDL getting censored?

Someone in my history class said something about Internet social gathering places are getting censored and I automatically panicked--I didn't want to loose my friends on TDL! Or anything here! Does anyone know (mods) if TDL is getting censored? I know Wikipedia is, and that freaked me out, because I like to use Wiki for information on TV shows I watch and movies and people (yes, I know it can be false information)

Anyway, if anyone knows about TDL and getting censored, please let me know in a message or down in the comments.

And, if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it, I just figured since almost everyone goes to The Lamp-post (normally it's my first place to go to) it would get seen first.

No I don't think so. Wikipedia is something completely different than TDL. This is just a place where we talk mostly about Narnia and hang out together and post. We don't post informatiopn like Wikipedia does and we don't post download links to download content online.
So TDL is not censored I guess

If your friends are discussing the [near] future "shut down" of Wikipedia, don't be alarmed; some websites are shutting down for a day to support the Stop Online Piracy act going through Congress right now. But as for censorship? I don't see it happening; the people who are in charge of this site are Americans, and that's First Amendment infringement.

I seriously doubt online forums get much attention unless they're propagating terrorism, death to the president, etc.

Well I don't think TDL is being censored, however my mom did read an article about this happening just this evening. Apperently some people want censor EVERYTHING on the internet (which is near impossible) and take off everything that has a copyright infringment in it (goodbye youtube). I know Congress and the Goverment have to do with it too....

Here, Google had this site up about it that tells you more about the internet censorship stuff. I don't think it effects TDL, at least not yet.... o_O

As a Librarian, freedom of information is second to none as one of our core principals (no matter our own personal opinions, be what they are), I cannot support such frightening legislation. If they pass it, what stops them from letting someone read the Bible online in a few years? Will they move to e-books, and then traditional books from there? I would hope not. If anyone here is of voting age, I suggest a short letter/email/call to your local congressman.

TDL censorship, I would doubt, unless Christianity becomes a target of censorship years after the bill passing.

Well, I personally understand the need to tighten the regulations, but we all know what happens when the government starts doing things like this....ends up really bad.

Just you say something bad about badgers and see what happens to you... You don't want to know--it's just too awful.

agreed, and as the video pointed out, it's not going to stop boot-legging. There's an old phrase that fits nicely:

" Build a better mousetrap, build a better mouse"

All this is going to do is cause a big mess (for example, since both are still under copyright, singing 'Happy Birthday', or 'Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer' would be breaking the law, and could cause people to go to jail for singing it, or posting a song online) and open the door for government censorship, like they have in China. I shutter to think how this would effect brick and Mortar Libraries and archives.

I'm not worried about it at all. They can never keep the people down. We have the right to our voice, our opinions and no one can take away our rights. We stand up and not be pushed around.

i think there would be an outrage if TDL were cescered

i think there would be an outrage if TDL were cesenored, i would probably leave here if that happened, i see why now that people are shutting down websites for a day, but i don't think TDL would be censoered

"I don't think TDL would be censored"

Well, the banners (Images from Narnia), are copyrighted by Disney/Walden and not TDL correct? so, it is possible that this site could be "censored"

First off HQK, things under copyright are not protected FOREVER. Which is to say that the great, great, great, great, great grandson of Thag who invented fire can't sue you for burning unlicensed candles.

A great many of the truly religious Christmas songs were written in the 19th or even 18th centuries. "Good Christian Men Rejoice" was written in medieval times. Trust me, you'll always be able to sing Silent Night.

Most winter songs or Christmas songs are or were under copyright, such as Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, or Winter Wonderland. The idea of songs about Christmas that are not suitable for worship purposes is a relatively modern one.

What you sing when you're in the shower is your own business. What you play in your garage with "the guys" is also your own business. If you move your act out onto the sidewalk to draw people into your yard sale, that's public performance, even if you don't charge admission, and that's another matter.

As for freedom of speech, you can write a story that you plan to sell and have two or three lines from a song lyric at the head of a chapter as an introductory quote, or you can quote various lines in a review of a song in your for-profit media magazine. You can't print the entire set of lyrics without permission of the copyright holder.
