I haven't seen any other thread for this...if there is, then I guess this will just be locked. :D Does anyone like Jane Austen? Read her books? My favorite is Pride and Prejudice. (of course, everyone else's too) And I love the BBC version of the movie. The newer one is okay-ish, but not NEARLY as good IMO. Thoughts? :)
 
I'm sorry I've never heard of her, though I have heard of the movie "Pride and Prejudice", though if that has any relation I have no idea

I love her books!!!and yes....thats my favorite too :rolleyes: ....but yea I havent seen another thread like this so I think your good! ;)....so do you just want to talk about them on here?

Yes, there is a relation. :) Jane Austen wrote the book Pride and Prejudice - that's where the movie comes from. You should try it sometime, it's wonderful stuff! A little dryer to read than some romances, but beautifully written and fascinating and very rewarding.

And to Shiloh...yep, I thought we might just talk about them a little, see who's read any of the books, what they think...you know that kind of a thing. :)
 
I like Jane I read pride and prejudice sense and sensabilty Mansfield Park and Emma thiose are all the ones I have read Sense and senssability and Pride and Prejudice are the two I like the most though.

Yes, she wrote quite a few full novels, and also some shorter things and I think maybe an unfinished novel? Anyhow, the six novels (all romances) are: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park, Persuasion, and Northanger Abbey. I've read all but Mansfield Park. Which version of the movie did you see? Like I said, the 5 hr BBC version (was a TV miniseries) is about 10,000 times better than the new one with Keira Knightley. It was SO close to the book, well cast and well done. Of course the book is still better, but it is about as close to the book and as well done as any movie of a book can be, I think... ;)

Sense and Sensibility is about two sisters - one is the "sensible" type (sense), who is pretty careful about giving her heart away. The other is the romantic, emotional type (sensibility). The book is about how each learns some of the other way's wisdom, and falls in love etc...great book.

hm. I should definitely read some of her other ones. And yes, I'm talking about the Keira Knightley one.
 
I liked the recent movie version of "Sense and Sensibility." Especially the performance of Alan Rickman--who, having usually played villains, was allowed here to prove that he could be a really likeable good guy. I have a sister who ran a chapter of the Jane Austen Society; she is very picky about costume authenticity in screen adaptations.
 
Perhaps my saying "recent" was misleading. "Recent" has a broader span for someone over age 50. The version with Hugh Grant IS the one with Alan Rickman; he was Colonel Brandon, my favorite character in that story.
 
Yes, some one besides me has seen it! I love Lizie and Jane. Darcy is such a fool sometimes. But the mother is histarical. I really like the Netherfield ball. Such eligence.
 
Lizzie and Darcy are my favorites. (of course) It makes me smile just to think about the movie... :) And I love when Lizzie turns up at Pemberly AFTER she has refused to marry Darcy. :o Oops. But the best is the end, when they come to Longbourne (sp?) and Darcy proposes to Lizzie. But the entire thing is wonderful. And the books is - of course - great!
