Remember when we used to have the "Graphic Maker of the Month" contest? Well, I thought we could do a similar thing except with poetry. Every month we'll have a contest with a poll for the best poem entered.

Rules:

1. Ten people can enter ONE poem each.
2. Poems must be at least ten lines long (which is about two and a half stanzas.)
3. The poet who wins the first contest will host the next one, but will not be allowed to enter. After they host for a certain month, they are welcome to enter again.

You can post your poem right on this thread, PM it to me, or you can post a link to it.

So... begin reserving spots! I reserve spot #1. XP

No spots left... if you entered, make sure your poem is posted by January 18th.

Count me in :D. That makes three so far.

Should we come up with a theme? It might be interesting to see what different poets would make of the same central focus.

I wrote this for the contest. It has a very tight internal rhyme scheme and uses alliteration for its effect.

A JANUARY PROMISE

Clean drifts of white cloak autumn’s blight,
The summer’s sons a sleeping
And down below the virgin snow
A solemn promise-keeping.

In seeds and shoots and dormant roots,
The spark of life surviving,
A hidden plan endures the span
Of winter tempests driving.

The blossoms bright, though out of sight,
Await their warm awaking
In rosy dreams of golden beams
When winter leave is taking!

Yay, I'm so excited!! :D

@ Lost Dreamer: You can post whatever poem you'd like, as long as you wrote it, obviously :p =]

@ EveningStar: Very cool poem! Great entry!

@ Inkling: That's a great idea! However, I think I'll make this one a free-theme and then whoever hosts the next one can think of a theme for February. :)

My Poem: Tribulation

Darkness swells,
Warmth blinks out.
Tribulation.
Hearts pound fiercely,
Eyes bleed tears.
Tribulation.
Seas calm,
Ponds rage.
Tribulation.
Lovers die,
Enemies cry.
Tribulation.
Rules change,
Lies explode.
Tribulation.
Sinking hopes,
Rising fear.
Tribulation.
Pens break,
Words cannot escape.
Tribulation.
Worlds collapse,
Lives crumble and crack.
Tribulation.
One man stands before them all,
The cause of it all...
The cause of Tribulation.

Darkness swells,
Warmth blinks out.
Tribulation.
Hearts pound fiercely,
Eyes bleed tears.
Tribulation.
Seas calm,
Ponds rage.
Tribulation.
Lovers die,
Enemies cry.
Tribulation.
Rules change,
Lies explode.
Tribulation.
Sinking hopes,
Rising fear.
Tribulation.
Pens break,
Words cannot escape.
Tribulation.
Worlds collapse,
Lives crumble and crack.
Tribulation.
One man stands before them all,
The cause of it all...
The cause of Tribulation.

How many are here now? Can I still reserve a spot?

Ah! Is it too late for me to enter??? Oh, pleasy, please let me enter!!!

Well, there's one spot left and Lossëndil posted first. :) I'm really sorry that all the spots are filled, Grace =[ I wish I could let you enter, but I can only have 10 people in the poll.

As for everyone else, make sure your poems are posted by January 18th. The sooner I get all the entries, the sooner I can put up the poll and voting can begin! :)

EDIT:

^If there arent enough spots, you can take mine. ;]

I dunno if I wanna enter anymore anyways....

Awwwww. That's saddening. =[
