Yes, it's annoying, because no one forced them at gunpoint to join, and once they did join they created an expectation of their active involvement.

here, here, copperfox! I've only been faced with this once in an RPG but it is really annoying. I have to admit that I have done it myself but when I do I ask for someone who wants to play the rpg to fill my shoes.

I try my hardest to not do this, but occasionally it's really hard not to. It gets really easy to leave people out and then they don't reply because they have no idea what's going on. So, they drop out. I've done it. I hate doing it, but sometimes it's hard to keep up, with school and friends and the like.

My very first experience with Narnian roleplaying was on the dear old Narnians At Heart forum, with a plotline set in the reign of Caspian. There I was a character called Copperfox Amadeus, married to a woman called Wiljanetta who was based on my Mary. I was one of the FEW players who stuck with it. In fact, though I had not been the originator, in the end I was left to bring the story to a halfway satisfactory conclusion all by myself! In the course of the protracted roleplay, some six or seven players, most of them female, came in with a splash, some of them trying to make themselves the star of the story and take the story in their chosen direction without regard for what was already established...only to drop out again when we had just managed to fit them in.

it is also frusterating when people don't take the time to try and be a part of the RPG. they just wait for others to come to them and then when no one does they just figure tehy will drop it.

I voted I do it all the time...I never join an RPG :p I'm not an RPG person. The only one I used to be active was the Mario RPG but Jeff stopped suddenly without a real reason. I must admit I had replied all the time and so did my fellow rpg-ers

I leave RPGs all the time. I know it can be a pain for some people, but for me, real life comes before online games. =]

I REALLY HATE IT!!! ITs happened in the Gotta Love High School, National Treasure, and in the worst case The Chronicles of Narnia: The Mistaken Lords.

Could the people that were in National Treasure please post in it before the RPG dies!!!???

Lila, no one knows better than I do that real life comes before games. The only reason I'm in a roleplay now is that it's a way to increase my acquaintance with TDL members and share thoughts. If you expect to be too busy...DON'T JOIN GAMES IN THE FIRST PLACE.

If you don't know if you'll be able to commit to an RPG, do what I do! :D

Create a character and profile that is distanced away from characters. Make it so you can pop in and out without really altering the storyline. Gives you elbow room. :)

That's a really useful way of approaching things. Unless your character gets really involved in the plot, that really works.

If your character does get very involved in the plot and you don't have time to participat there are 3 things you can do.

1. Figure a way to get your character in a situation that would cause him or her to have to distance themselves away from everyone else. When you have time you can reapear in the RPG.

2. Find someone else who likes RPGs to take control of the character.

3. Kill off your character, or something like that.

I hate when people just leave. It's ok when they slowly leave, but when they're a main part of the plot and just leave, then we have problems. That's why there are so many RPG's around. Because if one fails people decides to make another. If it starts to fail people, pick it back up!!! SERIOUSLY!!!

I can't say I'm not guilty of this myself, but I try my hardest to not leave, especially in a crucial part of the plot.

In some cases, people may depart an RP because even those who are posting seem comatose. On the old "Narnians At Heart" forum, some people's idea of roleplaying was like this:

"I brew some tea."

"I'll have some of that tea."

"I'm smelling some flowers."

"I'm pouring the tea."

"I'm smelling some other flowers."

"I'm drinking tea."

"I'm still smelling flowers."

"I'm drinking tea, too."

"I'm smelling flowers and drinking tea."

"I'm drinking tea and smelling flowers."

"I'll smell more flowers after I finish this tea."

"I'll have some more tea after I've smelled those flowers over there."

"That was very nice tea."

"Thank you; and aren't these nice flowers?"

"You mean the flowers you smelled after you drank your tea?"

"No, I mean the flowers I smelled before I drank my tea."
