Little things that amuse you

What are little things in the CON that amuse you when you read them?

For instance whenever I read the part in MN where the animals "christened him[Uncle Andrew] Brandy because he made that noise so often." It always makes me laugh!

What are your favorite little moments from the chronicles?

I have so many!!
One of my favorites is in the VOTDT when Repicheep says, "And we ought to have given her chase and bolted her, and hanged every mother's son of them!"
Also when Eustace (as a dragon) is trying to write out his story in the sand. When you try to read it it's really funny! The beginning of the book makes me laugh too, just because most of the stuff that C.S. Lewis writes in the beginning is most of the stuff that I am.
"Once there was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it. His parents called him Eustace Clarence and Masters called him Scrubb. I can't tell you how his friends spoke to him for he had none. He didn't call his father and mother 'father' and 'mother', but Herald and Alberta. They were very up-to-date and advanced people. (Here's the part) They were vegetarians, non-smokers and tee-totalers and wore a special kind of underclothes."
I always smile because...I'm all of that stuff. (minus that special kind of underclothes part)

Oh yes I love the beginning of VotDT! I actually memorized the first few pages a while ago, but now I've forgotten a lot of it...

I also love the part in PC that describes how the mice fight...

"'Come back, Reepicheep, you little ass!' shouted Peter. 'You'll only be killed. This is no place for mice.' But the ridiculous little creatures were dancing in and out among the feet of both armies, jabbing with their swords. Many a Telmarine warrior that day felt his foot suddenly peirced as if by a dozen scewers, hopped on one leg cursing the pain, and fell as often as not. If he fell, the mice finished him off; if he did not, someone else did."

I can just picture this in my mind, and it just seems so funny to see the mice fight like that. :D

Describing why Aravis and Cor got married:

"Aravis also had many quarrels (and, I'm afraid, even fights) with Cor, but they always made it up again: so that years later, when they were grown up, they were so used to quarreling and making up again that they got married so as to go on doing it more conveniently."

oh man I love that line!!

Reepicheep is a little thing that always amused me. :D

Actually I found Mrs. Beaver's concerns about her sewing machine rather funny. She's a lot like my mother...except my mother does not have buck teeth or a flat tail. ;)

VDT had a bunch of amusing parts like yall have mentioned. I loved it when Drinian was teasing Caspian about not marrying the Duke of Galma's daughter...and Caspian responded with "squints and has freckles." and Lucy responded, "Oh, poor girl." I always thought, what the world...what's wrong with freckles? So she needs glasses...grrr... I bet for the movie they'll make that scene more funny if they put it in at all. It made me do a double take in the book though.

I'll third that one Lila!

that is a very cool part. I always laugh. I also like the part in HAHB when Aravis is about to tell her story.
"In Calormen story telling is something you are taught, like children are taught essay-writing in school. The difference is that people want to hear the stories, whereas I never heard of anyone who wanted to read the essays."

Possibly the funniest explanation Lewis came up with.
I also like the part when the animals in MN tried to feed Uncle Andrew like he was a pet. That never fails to make me laugh.:D

How about when he left the witch on an errand and went instead to change into his best clothes, look in the mirror, and drink as if he were going to go on a date. What was he thinking? Oh wait, it's Uncle Andrew...never mind.

Totally!! The Bulldog is awsome. "Now sir, are you animal, vegetable or mineral?" and "I object to that remark very strongly!"

Uncle Andrew's problems with the creatures in MN always make me laugh! He was so foolish, and they so innocent.

"Children have one kind of silliness, as you know, and grown-ups have another kind. At this moment Uncle Andrew was beginning to be silly in a very grown-up way." :D *snickers*

Another one would be in PC when Aslan and everyone else are putting things right in Beruna and they come to the girl's school; I can just see miss Prizzle's face when she tries to clutch the desk and it's been turned into a rosebush! (oh me!)

What about the part where he turn all the nasty boys into pigs at the school and frees the school. Lewis has alot of funny stuff in his books but sometimes you just never see it because it fades into the background. in the Last Battle the way the monkey is dressed is ridiculous.

I love how C.S. Lewis always made you feel good when you read his stuff. Especially when I was a kid I loved that uncle andrew being silly part. It made me as a child feel mature. :D

I love the part at the end of the SC when Caspian gets to go to London. I also love the part of VotDT when Lewis first describes Eutace and his family.
