Location inconsistencies?

From reading this book and looking at the official map, I find it hard to see how the lantern and the location of the Tree of Protection can be so far away. The Lantern was planted in what ultimately was close to Tumnus' house, in central western Narnia. The Tree, was described as being planted near the waterfall in the southwestern area of Narnia that starts the Great River.

The distance on the maps is a fair distance yet Digory and Polly do not travel that long to get to that area from the lantern about where they came into Narnia.

I know. Basic insconsitencies, but this one is problematic to my Legacy story I am writing now that I think about it.

Atacally, the boo does not say the the tree of portection was planted next to the waterfall. Diagory could se the waterfall i the distence before he left, and when they retuned, I dont think Aslan was in the same place. Lesen " ( Fledge flew) Over the gret waterfall and down, and down, to where the wood ofNarnia were darkened by the shodow of of the mighty cliff, till at last, when the skt was growin red with the sunset behind them,he saw the place where many crethers were gathered together by thw riverside."

"till at last" stongly implses that they had to fly some distence in Narnia to get to the place they planted the tree- no by they gret waterfall.

I guess the main thing to remember is that Digory and Polly left with Fledge FROM where the lamp post was but RETURNED with the apple to a DIFFERENT location, where Aslan had Digory plant the apple before returning to his mother. Distance is relative when your on a winged horse. :)
