Although this is not exactly what you were looking for, I was reminded of it just by seeing your question. There is a book which tells how MISTER LEWIS deeply affected the lives of two younger friends of his, a certain Mr. and Mrs. Vanauken. That book is titled "A Severe Mercy."

I don't think it was a book with paintings but thanks anyway. I did some searching and couldn't find what I thought was the book but I found another book, which wasn't related to what I was talking about but I think it might have been the one I was looking for, not 100% sure.

I think it was "Knowing Aslan". I think I remember the reddish cover and I think it might have been about Aslan.

I might check out the used book store down the street and see if they have some of the books I was interested in getting. I bought the companion to Narnia book and it was interesting at first, but I'm into the Aslan chapter and at first it mentions interesting things but now the author is just saying things which happened in the books and I know about those already and the companion is supposed to be for those who have read the series already so I'm not sure why the author is recapping events.
