Mafia Game XXXIII: The Revenge of the Shadow.

Mafia game XXXIII

Host: Corin Thunderfist II

Players: Barbarian King, Elesta, Eustace C.Scrubb, GG, Glenburne, Icefire, Lava, Loverble, Miss Reepicheep, Rainshadow, Warrior Satyr.

The names of murdered players will be red. The names of hanged players will be blue.
The names of players who are on vacation will be purple.

(“On vacation” means that the player in question will be away from the Internet for an extended period of time and wants to make it clear to others that he or she is not being “too quiet” (one of the usual reasons to conduct hangings early in the game). If you would like to be listed as “on vacation,” post your request in this thread, and I will make the color change.)

Jobs:

Civilians: The majority of players are civilians.

Mafia: There are 4 Mafia, who get to kill one member every night. They PM the leader, telling the leader whom they want to kill.

Detective: The Detective PM’s the game leader every night with the name of one person, and the leader will PM him or her with that person’s job.

Healer: The Healer saves one person every night. If the Healer saves the same person as the Mafia decide to kill, then that person does not die.

Matchmaker: On the first night only, the Matchmaker PMs the leader with the names of two people he/she wants to be "lovers." If one of these lovers dies at any time in the game, the other one dies as well.

Gravekeeper: The Gravekeeper gets to pick one day (and one day only) on which all the dead players, or “kas (ghosts),” are allowed to vote. The Gravekeeper's power is not affected by death (so if the Gravekeeper dies before he or she has declared the Day of the Dead, he or she can still declare it). The Gravekeeper declares the Day of the Dead by PM-ing the leader during the night before that day.

Gameplay

This is a non-reveal game. A Non-Reveal Game means that when people die or are hung, their actual job remains forever in mystery... Well, at least until the game is over.

The object of the game for the Mafia is to kill everybody before they themselves are all hung. The object of the game for everybody else is to hang all the Mafia before they're all dead. During the night, the Mafia kill one person, the Detective finds out the job of one person, the Healer saves one person, the Matchmaker (on the first night only) picks two lovers, and Gravekeeper may use their powers if they want to. During the day, everybody votes on whom to hang for the last murder; on one day only, and, again on only one day, the Gravekeeper may declare a Day of the Dead and allow the Kas (ghosts) to vote.

There are 2 periods of the game: night and day. (The game starts at night.) During the nights, the Mafia kill somebody, the Detective finds out somebody’s job, the Healer saves somebody, and (on the first night only) the Matchmaker picks two lovers. During the days everybody votes on whom to hang at the end of the day.

We will be playing this game with time constraints. Each night and day will last 96 hours at the most.

The night ends when (1) the Mafia, Detective, Healer, and (on the first night only) Matchmaker have all PM'ed the leader, or (2) when the 96 hours are up. If any of the people with night-jobs have not PM'ed the leader by the end of the night, the leader selects a name at random to go to that job.

The day ends (1) when everyone has voted, or (2) when the 96 hours are up. If the vote is tied after the day ends, the leader will flip a coin to determine who dies.

If you have a job that involves frequent PMs, please make sure your PM box is open so I will not have trouble contacting you.

Do not forget to bold your official votes. If you wish to change your vote (you must do this before all votes have been cast), go to your original post and unbold the name of the person you initially voted for. Once you have done that, you may post again, bolding the name of the new person you have chosen to vote for.

Warning

Please be aware that some people are willing to do anything to win. Mafia games almost always involve deception on some level, so be prepared: in this game, you can trust no one. In the past, even non-Mafia have allied with the dark side. Please do not take anything that happens in this game personally, and remember—we have murderers in our midst!

It is ten years since the downfall of Sauron, and the elves have for the most part departed from Middle Earth. Yet rumours persist that there are still those in the land, who are servants of the Dark Lord. It is feared by some that they may be planning to cause serious disruptions to the upcoming celebrations, although most people dismiss these fears as baseless rumours. You are all back in Minas Tirith, looking forward to the celebrations, enjoying the hospitality of 'The Golden Elf', one of the many inns catering for the huge influx of visitors.

It is now night! P.M me!

(Please note, this is my first attempt at running a Mafia adventure, so please do not be too hard on me if I get some things not quite right, or it's not up to the standard you are accustomed to!).

Oh wow, Revenge of the Shadow sounds totally cool!!

Btw, the title would make a perfect LotR Living Card Game set. ;)

Ooooo! This is an awesome story idea, Corin!

Also, YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY HAWKS!!!!!! That was an awesome game! I can even appreciate that fact as a non-football fan! :D

Now why'd you have to go and make an observation like that?! *frowns at shadow* Maybe we can make them go away? Then we'll be safe, right?
*to the bartender*HEY! Can we get more light over here? Yes, light! Don't give me that look!

*sigh* Aaaand the game begins…with a football discussion. I'm blaming it on Sopespian's influence.

*returns to book*

We just felt the need to make Sopespian feel welcome in case he ever felt like joining a game of mafia. :D

*Looks inquisitively at the title of your book.* Are you reading "Elvish for Dummies"?

(Sorry about the double post.)

No, the Silmarillion is "History of Middle Earth for the Mythologically Inclined."

"History of Middle Earth for Dummies" is very short. It reads:

Middle Earth is born.
The Valar make stupid mistakes.
The Elves make stupid mistakes.
The Dwarves make stupid mistakes.
The Men make stupid mistakes.
All get smashed.
And so on.

Sorry to ruin the fun, but there actually IS a book entitled The History of Middle Earth for Dummies. I've seen it myself, and it is ridiculously thick. :p

Sorry! Sorry! I mentioned the wrong book! It's actually called "The Origins of Middle-Earth for Dummies" and it is not the same thing as "The Silmarillion." (Yes, I am the one who showed it to Rainshadow.) It actually covers everything from history to geography. It covers the.....wide variety of creatures found in Middle Earth and has a bunch of fancy charts to help you keep track of things. Basically, it's a reference book on all things Middle Earthian.....
That said, after about a chapter and a half of this book I thought to myself, "Why am I reading a book about the books about the History of Middle Earth and not the books themselves?" .....which is why I also have these! *holds up "The Silmarillion" and "The Children of Húrin"*
Speaking of, I was in a very intense part of the story before this conversation began...
*goes back to book*

Sopes has played before. Maybe even hosted one but I digress. I fail to check the internet for one day and the game starts without me... I need to be more vigilant I suppose. Therefore, I will lay myself down for a troubled sleep and keep my bow under my pillow for protection (since apparently Facebook quizzes unanimously believe I was meant to be an elf).
