Mod Feature: Ability to Lock Threads

To TDL's moderators,
I recently put up a thread title "United States Presidential Election".
I asked if everyone would please pray that the right choice is made.
The thread, soon after the election, turned into a condemnation of Obama, obviously a bipartisan debate, which TDL frowns upon. I would ask that instead of locking ENTIRE threads in future occurences, please remove all posts that violate the threads initial purpose, because not only is locking the entire thread aggravating, it also impedes those who actually have something to contribute to the purpose of the thread. Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,
Driad

The difficulty with that is that removing individual posts is a tedious task that requires constant monitoring to assure that new posts are acceptable, etc. Then you get into disputes over judgment calls ("Why did you delete my post but not his post?") That's one of the reasons we have a blanket policy discouraging political topics. Your intent of making it a prayer thread is admirable, and if it had remained just that, things might have turned out differently.
