movie content review website

There is a website called kids-in-mind that reviews the content of movies in several categories such as violence/gore, sex/nudity, profanity, and substance use.

In terms of the first three, they are given numerical ratings out of 10 with descriptions of scenes. But a few of the descriptions are odd in that they would even publish them in the categories.

Examples are in Sex/nudity, which PC is given a 1, has the male centaurs being bare-chested and "a teenage girl" wearing a dress that showed cleavage while she was lying down.

The oddest example in violence/gore, which PC was given a 6, was a scene that was not violent or gory. "A girl walks through a thick forest alone, the wind blows leaves into female forms and we hear them giggling; trees move to clear a path for her to walk through and the girl approaches and hugs a lion."

The most inane topic was for substance use, which PC was given a 1. "A girl carries a serum in a vial and when someone or something is injured, she drops a few drops in their mouths and they are revived." Seriously, they are citing her cordial for substance use because she uses it to revive Trumpkin and Reep.

I just thought it was odd for those entries.

I know what website is this. I actually posted their LWW review on here about three years ago when the movie came out. When it came to sexual content they perceived Jadis as being seductive towards Edmund.

Let me see if I can find the thread.

Found it!

I've ran across that web site before and it definitely isone of the most conservative ones there is. I tend to find several sites like this helpful, but this one does seem to be very nitpicky and overexaggerates things a bit.

So...hitting him across the face is being seductive? lol

If slapping is seductive, then a swallow can carry a coconut. Don't mean to be mean, but that's ridiculous.

I go to PluggedIn Online all the time. They're reviews don't always give away the plot, yet give a Biblical view and warning for the movie as necessary. Another site is MovieGuide.org. They're a little more conservative, but still good.

Bah, isn't it up to the person if they want to see the movie or not? I find these reviews simply silly. I'm sure most of them are for parents to see if the movie is okay for their child...but please. I'm a Mother myself, and I'm more then capable on deciding that on my own as well.

True, and I'm glad you want to do that. You're allowed to. I think these sites are simply for those parents (or people) who don't want to get totally caught off guard by something they consider inappropriate for their kids or themselves.

Take "Transformers" for example. AFter watching the film, I came to the conluscion that it was a movie made for the 20 to 30-year olds who had watched the original cartoons, and that resulted in the inclusion of some adult-related content. If sites like Plugged In and Kids In Mind weren't around, then there would probably have been A LOT of kids exposed to the wrong type of content.

I agree with you completely. I definitely respect the right of anyone who doesn't wish to use a site like those, but have found them very helpful, even as an adult. One that hasn't been mentioned that I like is the one on www.christiananswers.net called A Christian Spotlight on Entertainment.

Well, my Mom took both my young brothers to see that movie. She agreed with me that it wasn't that bad. My point is, that's why they have the rating system. It's why it was invented. When I think of a review, it's a review of how good the movie actually was.

Very true... and the MPAA rating system we have is fairly consistent. However, some of us with a Christian worldview sometimes want a bit more info than what the rating offers. There also have been some instances where I disagreed with the rating. In that case, it's nice to have a bit of a "head's up".

I've opted not to see several movies based on the info I've gotten from the content related reviews. My most recent decision was to skip the new Indy film based on what I read from a couple of different ones because of some of the content in the film.

*nod*Plugged-Ins the best.I use it for every film I go to.

The part about the cordial being "substance" use is pretty funny.:p

I use it when deciding on movies for when I go on dates. You know, just to make sure there are no embarrassing sexual contents in the film when out with someone you're starting to get to know. Websites like these can be pretty good for that stuff. But the kids-in-mind website seem to take things in the wrong context as if everything on screen is meant to be perverted. Granted, it is Hollywood after all but equating cordial with substance and Jadis with being seductive? Please.
