Mythmakers

For Christmas I was treated to a new graphic novel, Mythmakers, the story of the friendship between C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. So far it has been a fun, informative read with extra-biographical commentary supplied by a conversation between (not surprisingly!) a lion and a wizard. I got to hear a lecture by the author/artist, John Hendrix, as part of a series from the Wade Center at Wheaton College, which specializes in research on works by C.S. Lewis and six other authors who were either significant influences on him or in his circles. You can watch the presentation by Mr. Hendrix, a fascinating journey into the creative process, as well as a thumbnail snapshot of his research on Lewis' and Tolkien's friendship here:

This reminds me of something which was far from being Narnian, but still had to do with world-building, sort of.

It's a fairly old surrealistic stage play, titled "Six Characters in Search of an Author." It portrays _fictional_ characters actually _becoming_ alive, and asking a flesh-and-blood writer to create a satisfactory outcome for them.
