So, I'm sure a lot of you writers know about NaNoWriMo. Is anyone participating this year?
For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month (it takes place in November). Basically, what happens is that you take thirty days and nights to write an entire novel. It sounds intimidating, but it's a great way to accomplish something that you wouldn't otherwise have the motivation to do. You're not supposed to edit as you go or try to make your story perfect - the point is to WRITE and to keep doing it until you have at least 50,000 words.
I know that a lot of TDL'ers have done this in the past and have posted their projects here. I think it would be cool to do that, but for people who don't feel completely comfortable putting their work online, we could provide a way to keep each other motivated. I think it's important to interact with and encourage other writers as you go.
Right now you may be thinking, "Well, I'm not a writer! I've never even gotten close to finishing a novel. This isn't for me."
On the contrary! NaNoWriMo is EXACTLY what you need. Perhaps this will be your big break. You don't have to be a "writer" to do this. No experience necessary. Just grab a pen and paper or a computer and start writing.
Now, there's some rules and such that you should probably know about. Also, if you're interested in formally participating and interacting with other NaNo writers, you might want to register an account on the website. You can do all of this at www.nanowrimo.org.
And one last thing: you can't start writing until November 1. You can have outlines or character sketches, but no previously written prose. Other than that, there aren't many strict rules.
I hope a lot of people participate! Good luck!!!
