Narnia -> Book vs. Movie Discussion

I thought that this would be a nice to discuss. Things that you liked in the movie that wasn't in the book, things that you wish were in the movie but weren't, things that you liked that the movie did with things in the book and such.

Anywho, I'd have to say that I didn't like the frozen river scene, but it was put in to make it longer. I guess it makes sense...though I wish that Father Christmas would have given them their little feast and all. But, meh, I guess they didn't want to, tehe.

Good idea! lol

I wish Giant Rumblebuffin was in the movie more...and I wish they spent more time at the witches castle with Aslan, lucy and susan. :)

I prefered the book to the movie, though the bluebottle on the windowsill was a very nice touch. :D I feel the movie was very rushed, and yes, where was Giant Rumblebuffin? The handkerchief! Then again, the film had those comedy moments such as the cat with the charcoal still on his face during the coronation...
But why did Edmund ride Philip in the last scene? Talking Horses aren't ridden except into battle!

i think the ice breaking on the river was very good. the book was good but it didn't explain the battle very well whereas the film did it maybe the talking horse gave its consent to stay with edmund maybe it was philps discision.

I think that they should have expanded on the scene in the Witch's Castle with Aslan, Susan and Lucy too. That is kinda an important moment, tehe. I really enjoyed the battle in the movie though, I think they did a good job...though women aren't suppose to fight in Narnia (it's like chivary and stuff), they took out all of the seemingly sexist things that Lewis put in his book (such as 'Battles are ugly affairs when women fight').

I personally LOVED the movie, but I wish they put in the bit about Aslan jumping very high with Susan and Lucy on his back- it helps to show how magical, powerful, and wonderful Aslan is, all at the same time.

Personally I think almost all the additions the movie made to the book were great, and even agreed with almost all of what they left out - I actually prefer the movie to the book. But if I could have changed anything about the movie, I would have liked to have seen Edmund's journey to the Witch's castle expanded upon, and made longer. And also I feel he should have had more visible injuries after the journey and the Witch's torture, just to show how much he had suffered.

Something that bothered me was Peter and his fight with Maugrin Peter was such a weakling! They really messed that up for me.
They didnt do the party scene with the animals at the table eating and celebrating, which sucked b/c i liked that part.

Oh I know! I wish they had down that fight more like the one in the BBC series, Peter is very unconfident in the movie. I hope he's a bit better in PC, tehehe.

I love both the Book and the Movie! I like the added Waterfall/crossing river scene, but I did miss Rumblebuffin not being in the movie. Hopefully he will be in the special edition DVD.
Even though Father Christmas didn't tell the beavers about their presents and that the beavers and children didn't stop to eat, I think thats also alright, because the movie is an action movie. So the Narnia producing people basically took out all the parts in the book that are long (Edmund's journey with the Witch, for example) so that the movie would keep on being exciting and would keep the action moving.
Thats all the different parts about the book vs. movie I can think of now...
Yes, DifferentFree, I also hope that Peter's swordfighting in PC is better. I think it will be, he's had tons of experience now!

Peter needed to be more heroic. I thought he was very heroic in the bombing london seen but he did seem weak against the wolf. For about two seconds I forgot about the rest of the movie and didn't like it lol. He needed more confidence and maugrim needed to be smarter. The fight should have lasted longer. Peter needed to get scratched or something and maugrim needed to be thrown to the grown and then stabbed or something like that. So yeah... I also thought they made Narnia seem small with the "well its the world dear" line from Mrs. Beaver. Shots of huge landscapes don't make up for the fact that the journy to the stone table was too short. I did like the change from the book in that the wolves were almost on top of them in the beavers house rather than the wolves arriving late (I'm pretty sure that was a change... right). I thought the fox character was a good addition but... something was missing... I don't know. Also I thought the white witch could have come across as more fierce and more easily angered... she seemed to calm to much of the time.
Well thats about all I can think of now. Of course I would have liked it to stick to the book just a little more but the changes they did make I thought for the most part fit very well and actually made it better. I expected so much less, it was great!

well i thought they shud hav don some more at the coronation scene cos there wasnt much there, like they shud hav had a party or somethin. In the battle they couldnt hav much blood or anythin cos it was rated pg so they couldnt really win cos they had 2 make it 4 all ages, Skandar wanted to hav loads of blood and guts wen he nearly died! but i thought they cud hav showed a bit mor of him fightin cos it was a bit much all bout peter!!

well

i loved the added waterfall scene!
but i too wish that they had rublebuffin in the movie a little more then what he was in! ya know?
i think the beggening when it should the bombuings and them tell their mm bye was awesome! one of the best scenes in the movie!
i didn't like how they were playing outside and ed. broke the window and that's how they ended up in the wardrobe!

something i'm glad they took out though was the little party with the animals, i'm not sure how they would've been able to fit that into a movie like this.

oh, i wish the fight between peter and muargrim stood more faithfull to lewis! cause member in the book he comes and everyone starts running and he can just see lucy running towards him and he sees susan running away from the wolf, then he runs and fights, well yah!

so do u guys understand me or is it all just rubbish?

p.s.
one more thing, i wanted to see the kids play in the water after the fight and all that. ya know? right before the coronation and all.

and to answer someones question from earlier (i froget who asked it). no, the fight wasn't that big in the book, in fact the fight was barely in the book! member? people! but i sure am glad they made it bigger in the movie! ya now?
